One of the largest tsunami waves ever recorded broke in 1958. A tsunami with a record run-up height of 1700 feet (518 m) occurred in Lituya Bay, Alaska. A landslide, caused by an earthquake, created a mega wave. It surged over the headland and washed away trees, plants, and soil down to bedrock.
