Building a tower to space sounds like the ultimate sci-fi dream, but in reality, it would be a total disaster. First off, the sheer weight of the materials would be impossible to support—it would collapse under its own weight before even getting close to space. Then there’s the fact that the Earth spins, so anything sticking straight up would have to deal with insane forces pulling it sideways. Even if we somehow built it, weather, like hurricanes or earthquakes, would tear it apart in no time.
