February 14, 2000. Just a regular Valentine’s Day! 💝 Some flowers and candies, the beginning of the new millennium, and… A good day to make history. A spacecraft finally got a date with asteroid 433 Eros. This "date" almost didn’t happen because an engine misfire caused it to miss the asteroid. But engineers decided to let the spacecraft do the circle around the Sun for one more year, and it eventually made it. Asteroid 433 Eros is indeed the smallest body in our solar system that got its own spacecraft orbiting it. This asteroid is special in another way too. Most of them end up somewhere between the orbits of Jupiter and Mars and simply pass us by at a safe distance. But not Eros. It became the first of Near-Earth Asteroids. We're now keeping a close eye on this asteroid that's getting too close to Earth for comfort! More on that and some other mind-blowing space objects. It looks like an innocent fluffy ball in the water. But beware! What you're looking at is a sea urchin, and it's something you want to stay far, far away from! That "fluff" is actually pointy sharp spikes full of venom. When you meet these things, it's often too late: you already stepped on it and you have seconds to react! In case that happens, keep watching to see what you should do! Urchins aren't the only venomous creatures hiding at your local beach. Again, you probably won't even see the stonefish until its venom is already in you from the wrong step. If its spike gets in you, you'll need help fast! And it looks like a pretty average waterfall. However, what's interesting about it is that it has 2 different bodies of water. People visiting the waterfall have dropped different objects into it and never got them back… As they never reappeared in the stream. I wouldn't want my phone to fall into that stream of water! Somewhere, deep underground in super-secret laboratories, scientists are trying to create a black hole. It looks like the latest experiment was a success! The black hole hovers above the desk for a moment, but then, in a split second, it eats it whole. Then microscopes and test tubes fly into the dark void. Soon everything in the room has been consumed. Is the entire planet next?!? 😱🌌 Ok, that's just a hypothetical what if situation. But scientists here on Earth do think they can make a black hole here on Earth. They've already been working on it at The Large Hadron Collider. This machine basically makes particles move at high speeds until they collide. When this happens, they release a lot of energy, and the scientists think that energy might be enough to create a black hole!
