You Can Be Suddenly Downgraded on a Flight, Here’s Why

Can you be 'downgraded' on a flight? You arrive at the airport, anticipating a pleasant flight – after all, you've paid more for that extra legroom! Or a comfy window seat. Or a business class. That's when you find out you've been.. downgraded! How come? And if you can get downgraded, is the opposite possible too? Then, what other secrets do airlines hide? Experts claim downgrades do happen – and rather frequently at that! The reasons vary: the airplane can get unexpectedly swapped for a smaller one because of some technical issues. There have also been cases when people bought first-class tickets only to find out later there was no first class on the plane whatsoever! But the rules of downgrading and upgrading aren't the only secrets airlines, flight attendants, and airport staff don't want you to know. Interested? Then check out these surprising facts every traveler will like to know. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

Two Students Finally Solved Train Mystery, See How

The mysterious ghost train became the main sight of St. Louis, a little village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. There are just around 400 people living there and hundreds visit it to see the St. Louis light. It was featured in books and online, and was on TV shows like Unsolved Mysteries. For decades, no one could explain what it really was. Some people spotted a white light, others said they'd seen a red one. An urban legend explained the red light was a lantern carried by a ghost of a train conductor who had lost his life one night examining the tracks. Scientists tried to debunk both ghost-involving theories but failed. Then, two high school students from northern Saskatchewan decided to jump in. They first witnessed the ghost train on a road trip to St. Louis… #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

What If Your Bones Were Outside And People Had Shells

The screech of brakes on a wet road, eyes of the driver filled with horror, an ear-splitting bump of impact… You open your eyes to the rain falling on your face and don’t see anything through the blur at first. Then, your vision clears, and you see the gray sky and the black spot of a face above you. “Are you alright? I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you…” You get up with the help of the driver who hit you. Thankfully, apart from torn clothes, no serious damage has been done, and you don’t even feel pain. Your exoskeleton took all the impact upon itself. At home, you take off your shirt and check the chitin plates on your side. They seem absolutely fine. Exoskeleton is such a wonderful evolutionary feature, after all! The plates are hard enough to take a serious impact without breaking, yet they’re also flexible, acting a bit like a spring when something hits them… We tried to imagine what our life would be like if people had exoskeletons. Yep, this is another cool "what if" video for those who love fantasy stories. #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ ES_A Dark Future – Dream Cave.mp3

24 Planets Even Better for Life Than Earth

How many habitable planets are there? Water is the basis of life in any part of the universe. So potentially inhabited planets must have liquid water on them to support life. An incredible number of circumstances must come together for this. The planet must be in the habitable zone of the star. A little closer to the star, and the water will evaporate, leaving no chance for oceans and seas to form. This is what happened on Venus. Too far from the star, and the planet becomes too cold. Water can only exist in the form of ice on the surface and there just might be liquid water deep below. Neptune is one example of this. In our galaxy alone, there are countless stars. Really you can’t count on them. Near each of them may be a planet. They are called exoplanets. And some of them may be in the habitable zone and have everything for life to form on them. From a list of 4,500 known exoplanets, scientists have identified 24 that can be superhabitable. This is the type of planet that is suitable for the existence and evolution of life even more than the Earth! #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

What If You Played Video Games for a Year Non-Stop

Hey guys! Are any of you gamers? Have you ever thought of the negative effects of video games? Or ever wondered what would happen to you if you played video games, say, for a year non-stop? Let me tell you my story. It all started a year ago, when I got a new job. I have to admit I’m quite a gamer. So when I saw the ad in the paper, I called them immediately. Wanted: Video Game Player. It turned out the offer wasn’t that simple. Yes, my job was to play video games. But all day long. 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days in total. I’d have 8 hours to sleep and a half an hour in the morning and in the evening to eat and shower. No days off, no vacation. Take it or leave it. It scared me, and I was reluctant to agree. But then the employer told me my yearly salary, and I was in. If I did it for a year, I’d never have to work again. So, I decided to give it a try. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

Scientists Opened a 5 MLN-Year-Old Cave And Their Heart Skipped a Beat

Over millions of years, our planet has changed a lot. Ice ages, shifting tectonic plates, global floods, meteorites. Whole species of animals have come and gone over millennia. At some point in all of this, we humans came along. Now imagine a place that was cut off from the rest of the world for 5.5 million years, possibly much more. A place that no human had ever set foot in before. In 1986, we finally found it, Movile cave. This cave contains 48 species, 33 of which are completely new to us. Strange white snails crawl along the walls and transparent shrimps, even small leeches, swim in the water. White centipedes with huge whiskers and transparent spiders shuffle around. There are even 2 species of scorpion. Water scorpions and another kind, as yet unidentified. It’s not exactly your typical desert scorpion. Actually, nothing around here looks…normal. These are probably the weirdest creatures in the whole world. #brightside Preview photo credit: Cave woodlouse. Why Space Shuttle Had Holes in Its Nose

Hey guys! Today, we’re going to look at that airplane-looking thing that once carried the astronauts, their gear, and whatever they’re transporting up to space. It still is the most complicated machine ever built by humans. For illustrative purposes, let’s head back in time to Cape Canaveral, Florida. It's June 8, 2007. Here at the John F. Kennedy Space Center, we’ll follow one of the space shuttles on its mission, to understand how it works. Launch is the most stressful part of the flight. The goal of Atlantis is orbit. The astronauts are pressed into their seats, watching the clouds zoom past. It’s at this moment that the astronauts experience a “G-force” of about 3. Sounds intense! Actually, it’s less “G’s” than pilots normally experience when they do a loop mid-air. Not exactly a problem for highly trained astronauts. Btw, do you know how austronauts return to Earth? We'll talk about that, either. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:
