What Space Shuttle Was Really Carrying and Why It Flew Backward

Hey guys! Today, we’re going to look at that airplane-looking thing that once carried the astronauts, their gear, and whatever they’re transporting up to space. It still is the most complicated machine ever built by humans. For illustrative purposes, let’s head back in time to Cape Canaveral, Florida. It's June 8, 2007. Here at the John F. Kennedy Space Center, we’ll follow one of the space shuttles on its mission, to understand how it works. Launch is the most stressful part of the flight. The goal of Atlantis is orbit. The astronauts are pressed into their seats, watching the clouds zoom past. It’s at this moment that the astronauts experience a “G-force” of about 3. Sounds intense! Actually, it’s less “G’s” than pilots normally experience when they do a loop mid-air. Not exactly a problem for highly trained astronauts. Btw, do you know how austronauts return to Earth? We'll talk about that, either. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

What We Can Eat in 2030: Worms, Fake Meat, Non-Melting Ice-Cream

What's the future of food? What will we eat in ten years? Experts insist that thanks to the problems of overpopulation and limited resources, we need to rethink what we are eating every day. Research in the food industry and the rapid advancement of technology provide new perspectives on what we will be putting on our plates in the future. We collected some ideas about the food we'll probably be eating in the future. Okay, it’s just another day in 2030. You decide to start off by eating a bottle of water. Yep, in 2030, edible water bottles made of seaweed are a big thing. It’s cheaper and more eco-friendly than plastic. You can either pop it in your mouth or drink it bite by bite! You move to your kitchen to make some breakfast. You always have fresh veggies from your robotic greenhouse. Your smart kitchen decides you want a burger. But meat consumption was growing way too fast, so humans found a great alternative. Burgers are now plant-based or made with lab-grown meat. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

21 Sea Creatures Get Scarier the Deeper You Go

Wildlife never ceases to astonish us with its diversity. You've probably never even heard of many of the creatures living on our planet, while their appearance will make your eyebrows go all the way up. "The deeper you go, the creepier they get." You're about to travel to the darkest ocean depths and check whether this claim is true. We decided to create our own little "zoo" with rare and unusual sea critters. Are the creatures living there as scary as people think? Well, let's see. At a depth of 3,200 ft, you can meet the cookiecutter shark. This creature is a parasite. It attaches itself to big fishes, dolphins, whales, and sometimes even people. Then, using its neatly arranged serrated teeth, it gouges out cookie-sized pieces of meat. At a depth of 4,000 ft, you see something droopy and saggy. The blobfish doesn't have a skeleton or any muscle. Its jelly-like flesh lets the creature survive incredible water pressure. But despite its appearance, the blobfish is an ambush predator. Interested? Here are the most amazing sea creatures found deep within the ocean. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

What Happens When Stars and Black Holes Meet

How often do stars collide? And what would happen if two stars collide? Stellar collisions occur about every 10,000 years and are an incredible spectacle. But they’re only fascinating to watch when they happen tens and hundreds of light-years away. If a star collides with our own Sun, it will be a global cataclysm that will leave no chance of survival to anything. If it happens, it will most likely involve a rogue star. These are stars that aren’t bound by gravity to any galaxy and move independently through space. And such a star has already paid a visit to our Solar System. To be more precise, two stars. About 70,000 years ago, they approached the boundary of our system. Humanity was already around at the time and probably began spreading worldwide from Africa. And they could have witnessed a dim red light in the night sky. And even though Scholz’s Star flew by us at a distance of about 0.8 light-years, its gravitational field strongly influenced the movement of different cosmic bodies. But what if such a star didn’t pass by, but went straight to the center of our Solar System — to the Sun? Scientists say this may happen. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

If You Lived in a Flat 2D World, Here’s What You’d Look Like

Have you ever wondered what our life would be like if we lived in a 2D world instead of a 3D world? Imagine you and your friends decide to play a new board game. You roll the dice and get 5 and 3. Your pawn moves 8 spaces on the flat squares. The next morning, you wake up to…something bizarre. All you can see is…lines? There’s no height, no up or down. You try to move your head. You can’t see feet below you or a ceiling above you. Your view is limited to left and right. You try to jump – no luck. You can move, but only forward, backward, left, and right. You check out your room. There are no windows, just a line blocking you from going anywhere. The wall. You head to the right and left. As you approach objects, they get brighter. You finally find the door: a brown line you can push open. You’re a flat pawn and can't lift yourself from the board or climb on top of objects – you can only go around them. Your entire world is in 2D! #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

People Will Soon Travel to Other Galaxies, Here’s When

What would happen if the Andromeda Galaxy collided with the Milky Way Galaxy? In 4.5 billion years, our entire Milky Way galaxy will experience an incredible incident. The Andromeda galaxy will hit us at great speed. As a result of the collision, some stars will be thrown into distant space, while others will form new solar systems. But most likely, all life in the new Milkomeda or Milkdromeda galaxy will cease to exist. But let's look to the future and find out what will happen to us people. Well, humanity decided it was time to leave the Earth, and now we live very far away in another galaxy. There can be an infinite number of planets in the Universe on which humans can theoretically live. One of the main requirements — the planet must orbit the star in its habitable zone. We find similar star systems almost every year, and have recently found the nearest one. It’s Proxima Centauri. There are at least two planets around this red dwarf on which we can build our new home. But the problem is that this system is as far as 4.2 light-years away… #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

Don’t Watch If You Can’t Handle the Truth

And just like that, you clicked. See how we just told you not to do something, and you’re all hooked. Sure, you did it out of curiosity and sabotage, but that’s exactly the point. That’s just one of the many mind games other people and even your own brain plays on you. Psychological manipulation occurs when one person is used for the benefit of another. The manipulator deliberately creates an imbalance of power and exploits the victim to serve his or her agenda. Every manipulator targets a very precious part of you, your emotions. When you think with your brain, you make rational, solid choices. But manipulators don’t want you to do that. They want to shut down your mind and make you stop thinking rationally. Then, you’re driven by emotions that push you to do things you’d normally never do. If you don’t want to get caught in this trap, make sure you stop and think: “What’s in it for me? Do I really need it?”. But there are other ways of manipulating. Some of them make you believe that you need something to be happy. Making your own choices can be a little bit tricky… #brightside TIMESTAMPS:

That’s Why People Don’t Have Black Eyes (Never Ever)

We rarely think about how interesting and unique our bodies are. Did you know, for example, that no human being has truly black eyes? Or that if the human eye was a photo camera, its resolution would be about 576 megapixels? Or that a human produces from half a quart to 1 liter of saliva every day, depending on the person. That’s enough saliva in a year to fill a bathtub! Do you still think you know your own bodies perfectly? Okay, how about this? The only thing that makes our blood types different is… sugar, a human hair is stronger than the same diameter copper wire, our belly buttons have an entire zoo in them, with a range of about 70 different bacteria? Believe it or not, there are even more miracles in our bodies that can surprise us! Today, we invite you all to check out this compilation of facts about the human body – many of which we never speak about. #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz
