Smartphones Don’t Have Night Vision, Here’s Really Why

The first mobile phone was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. It was made 37 years ago, so it was not technologically advanced, by today’s standards. The first phone camera was in the Kyocera Visual Phone VP-210. It was made in 1999 in Japan and could take video and photos. The camera had only 0.11 megapixels and was able to process just 2 video frames in a second, but it was the first ever video filmed on a phone. Much has changed since then and even cheap devices nowadays are much more powerful than the most powerful computers of the past. So much so that your phone has half a million times more memory than a whole bunch of computers that sent the first man to the Moon! Our phones are becoming much more similar to PCs than to actual telephones. But why don't mobile cameras come with night vision? Check out these cool facts you probably don't know about cell phones. #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

How Deep Down Is the Earth’s Core?

How many layers does the Earth have? Have you ever wondered what lies beneath Earth's crust? Well, our planet is like an onion – with loads of different layers. The Earth's crust is like a hard-boiled egg's shell – thin and tough. It takes up less than 1% of the planet's size. At a depth of 3,300 ft, the pressure reaches 330 atmospheres. That's like four elephants piled up on your head or two pandas balanced on your thumbnail. About 6,500 ft below the surface, you still can meet some living creatures! Those are springtails – teeny eyeless insects that live in super-deep Krubera Cave. The deepest multicellular animal people know about lives at a depth of 11,800 ft in the TauTona mine in South Africa. This may sound strange, but a lot of interesting things happen underground. For example, 510 ft underground, you find the world's deepest hotel, and in 2020, the world's deepest concert took place at a depth of 6,200 ft! #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

You Come Across These Daily But Don’t Know What They’re For

When people started developing items to make life easier, every tiny detail in them mattered and had a specific purpose. Nothing they did was by accident of simply to attract attention. Even what looked like artwork had a specific purpose and had many benefits for everyday life. Every element was intentional.  For example, did you know that soda can has a special hole that can hold your draw in place? Or that sneakers have special holes designed for ventilation?

What If You Had Animal Feet

Albert Einstein once said: “The important thing is to not stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” So what's to be done with questions that seem too weird to ask but still come to us at night while we're trying to fall asleep? That's right: these are the most interesting ones! So, here's one of those absurd hypothetical questions that might torment you in the wee hours of the night so that you can stop losing sleep. What if you had animal feet? Let's imagine that one day, everyone just woke up with animal feet! Well, the automobile industry would be hit pretty hard. Who needs a car when you can run like a cheetah at highway speeds! That, and the pedals aren’t exactly shaped for hooves. You would have to forget about shoes as you know them now. Even size 12s won’t fit giant two-toed ostrich feet or big round elephant pads! And a person wouldn't be able just to play any sport we want. Having bulky elephant feet guarantees failure in the long jump – elephants can’t jump at all! #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

What If You Threw the Biggest Diamond into the Mariana Trench

You’re an explorer, and right now you’re standing on the edge of a ship in the ocean. You have the largest diamond in the world in your hands. And you’re going to throw it into the deepest place on Earth: the Mariana Trench. To get the bottom you’d have to dive a distance of one and a half times the height of Everest. Almost any object would simply be destroyed at this depth by the enormous pressure. And this is why you’re gonna throw the diamond in there. Diamond is one of the hardest substances on the planet. You’ve come to the Western Pacific, East of the Philippines. You won’t miss the Mariana Trench, because it has a huge shape of a crescent. This gutter that looks like a scar on the earth's crust stretches 1,500 miles long. The Mariana Trench was formed by the junction of two tectonic plates. There are many such junctions all over the planet, but you chose this one because it’s the deepest. The bottom of the Mariana Trench is almost 7 miles deep. So let's find out what would happen if you threw the diamond into the Mariana Trench! #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

6 Huge Dams That Can Fail Any Second

It's just a tiny crack – not a big deal, right? True – if it wasn't a fracture in a stone wall of a gigantic dam. Unfortunately, the crack goes unnoticed. Under immense pressure, it starts growing. Still, not a big deal – just a sign the material is wearing out. But then, the inevitable happens. An earthquake isn't even that strong. But it becomes the last straw. The dam starts to break apart. Giant waves of water gush toward the first sleeping city on its way… The water from the broken dam floods dozens of towns and cities within 24 hours. Along the way, it sweeps away bridges, wipes off highways, tears pipelines. If you think this catastrophic scenario can only happen in a natural disaster movie, there's some bad news for you. Among 57,000 large dams in the world, there are dozens that can fail at any moment – with no or very little warning. #brightside TIMESTAMPS:
