Most Mysterious Sea Creatures Ever Existed (Not All Sharks Bite!)

Have you ever gone surfing or scuba diving and thought "what if someone's gonna bite me in the water"? Yeah, we all have that fear of dangerous sea creatures. Poisonous jellyfish, venomous sea snakes, toothy barracudas and sharks. Who isn't afraid of shark? But are all sharks that dangerous? We all remember such movies like "Jaws" or "Deep Blue Sea", so there's a cultural myth that all sharks are equally threatening to humans. In fact, there're some species that present no risk at all. For example, whale sharks. Even though they're the biggest in the ocean, they just eat zooplankton and present no threat at all.  Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Only One Person Lives in This Town for 16 Years

A town is a bit like a living thing, with various essential organs each doing their crucial job. It takes a lot of effort, as well as people, to maintain any town. Without these things, it could disappear. Imagine you’re the only person living in a town. To keep things running, you would have to deal with lots of routine stuff you might not have ever thought about before. Things like money, and admin duties, and lots of other complicated things you’re not used to doing. If that sounds difficult, there are actually real places just like this. 86-year-old Elsie Eiler is the only resident in the town of Monowi, Nebraska. This makes Monowi the USA’s smallest town in population terms. It was founded in 1902 when a crucial railroad finally reached the area. The population peaked in the 1930s with 150 residents. At the time, it had several grocery stores, a restaurant, and a few other services. A rusty, decaying shed now hidden among the trees used to be the town’s jail. Let's find out more about one of the strangest places in the world. #brightside EPISODES:

You Thought You Knew How Big These Objects Were But You Were Wrong

The Great Pyramid at Giza is twice the volume of the Houston Astrodome, a gigantic multi-purpose domed sports stadium. The largest American flag is one and a half football fields long and an entire football field wide. Each star on the flag is 17 ft high! The largest creature that's ever taken flight on our planet weighed more than a piano. And its wings were longer than 6 queen-size beds! We're keeping to amaze you with interesting facts about this world. Today we're going to talk about the biggest things on Earth. Do you know, for example, what's the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall? Or which plane can hold 50 cars? Or that there's a haul truck that can carry the weight equal to more than two fully grown blue whales? The average person wouldn't even reach the top of a vehicle's huge wheel. The giant's almost twice as tall as a giraffe! Let's measure and compare the real sizes of different objects. Some of these cool facts will definitely impress you. #brightside EPISODES:

Biggest and Smallest Animal Organs Too Extreme to Be Real

Talk about Brains! Do you know which animal has the biggest brain? And which mammal has the biggest brain-to-body mass ratios? Or what's the smallest creature with a brain (it's only the width of a human hair!) Or maybe you know what animal has a donut-shaped brain? (And the tube carrying food from their mouth to their stomach runs straight through it!) Yeah, the world of animals hides tons of miracles that are sometimes hard to believe. Eyes the size of a soccer ball, a tongue that can be one and a half times the length of the animal's body, animals with no stomach whatsoever — all these things seem to be so unusual that you’d think they couldn’t possibly exist on our planet. But these are just a few cool traits from different animals. So here's another compilation of facts about animals that you probably didn’t learn in your biology lessons. #brightside EPISODES:

How a Smartphone Knows Up from Down And Other Hidden Secrets

How a smartphone knows up from down? When we turn the phone to the side to watch a video or play a game, we seamlessly change the object in the frame. A pinhead-sized chip called an accelerometer does the job. A similar system is installed in one of the most sophisticated machines we know — your own body. Your inner ear’s design is alike: it senses the acceleration when you move in an elevator or car or change your head position. That vestibular system is connected to the eyes. When you’re filming a video and the camera, like your smartphone, moves and shakes, you see the picture as smooth and steady due to your inner accelerometer working. But try watching the same video on a motionless screen — everything gets blurry. In some situations, like on a moving ship or airplane, signals that reach your brain from the eyes and the vestibular system contradict each other and, you know, the small brown paper bag comes to stage… But how do accelerometers work? And what other cool sensors does your phone have? Let's find out! #brightside EPISODES:

What If All Water Was Salty (You’d Have a Fish Tail!)

Let’s get it straight from the get-go: all water is already salty. Salt appears in seas and oceans thanks to rivers, which bring minerals from land with them. Rivers are considered fresh themselves only because their levels of salinity are much lower: movement doesn’t allow the salt to collect, and rains replenish them with fresh water. So technically, what we drink is not exactly fresh — there’s some salt in that water anyway. But if, for some reason, all water in the world became much saltier, we’d be in big trouble. Let's take the Dead Sea, for example. The level of salt here is much higher than in any other reservoir on the planet: there’s so much of it that water would keep you afloat without any effort. But this curious effect is the only positive thing about it because almost no life is possible in such conditions. Only the sturdiest of bacteria can survive here: there’s no fish, no marine mammals, and no sea birds over the lake’s surface. Needless to say, if there was this much salt in every water body in the world, complex life would’ve never appeared in the first place. So what if all water on our planet was salty? #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz
