There Was a Year Without a Summer Once

Hot cocoa, sledding down snow-covered hills, the cheer of the holiday season. Yeah, we all love this magical festive atmosphere, if… it happens in winter, not summer. But what if you found yourself staring at frozen streets during what should be the hottest time of the year? Sounds exactly like that: a fun “what if” thought experiment that’s purely hypothetical. But this time, it’s not! Welcome to 1816: The Year Without a Summer… Other videos you might like:

-June 1816 felt more like January in Europe. Days went by, and the weather still hasn’t changed. Farmers across the continent are losing their harvest to frost and lack of sunshine. Cows can’t feed on fresh grass, so they can’t make milk. Snowstorms and blizzards could knock you over.
-The first prototype of the bicycle didn’t have pedals – you just had to kick your feet off the ground to use this “walking machine”.
-Lord Byron and Mary Shelley were in Switzerland at the moment. He wrote an apocalyptic poem called Darkness, and she came up with her novel Frankenstein.
-Hurricanes with hail, heavy downpours in the spring, frosts, and snow in the summer. Cornfields are frozen. Stocks of food are depleted in North America.
-Monsoons have wrecked the provinces. Heavy rains have flooded rice paddy, there’s frost and snow every night in China.
-Caribbean coast is still incredible! For the next 6 months, you can sunbathe and make a living on fishing.
-From 1795 to 1820, there was minimal sun activity. The temperature of the seas and oceans decreased as well because of that sun problem. Last but certainly not least, there was the main reason for the long long winter of 1816: volcanoes. -The temperature on the planet plummeted because of all the volcanoes that exploded one after another in 1812. Volcanic ash covered the sky with such a dense layer that it was able to block the sun's rays like a giant curtain over the sky.
-A volcano spews out a lot of chemical elements from the depths of our planet. And some of these elements are poisonous for living creatures and can cause acid rains. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

They’re looking for a job, any job for anybody!
-There's nobody inside now, but the place is ransacked. You can’t call the police because it doesn’t exist any more. -You walk out, dozens of people surround you. They offer you help in every form. Replacing wheels for apples, fixing bike chain for oil, and so on. -The stranger walks you to the last refuge for workaholics that pretend to be working out of habit. -People head to the countryside and live off the land, try to be self-sufficient. There is no more money. As for anything that resembles an economy, it’s based on trading goods and services. Why Planes Fly With One Passenger on Board

Cramped space, noise, annoying fellow passengers… That's what a typical flight looks like. But what if you had the whole plane just for yourself? Before you say that it's possible only for rich people who fly private jets, just listen to this… Sometimes airlines have to operate commercial flights with only one (in some cases 2 or 3) passenger. As you can guess, these lucky guys get a first-class experience for the price of an economy ticket. But why would airlines do so? Don’t such flights just make them lose money and it would be more logical to cancel them? Well, when they make a decision to fly an nearly empty plane, they have to take into consideration much more than headcount. Other videos you might like:

The longest non-stop passenger flight 5:45

-Most planes don’t just fly back and forth between two airports. An empty plane could rush from airport A to airport B where a full house of passengers is waiting to get to airport C by dinner.
-Airline crews use empty planes to reposition crew workers to the places where they’re needed.
-Maintenance is performed at pre-planned intervals, and a plane has to be at the right place and time. So canceling a flight just because it’s lightly booked can disrupt this intricate web.
-If the flight is under-booked, the cargo holds can be full.
-Airlines offer lower prices only for early bird seats. If they suddenly started selling cheaper tickets right before the departure just to fill an empty plane, it would compromise the proven pricing model.
-You have to fly 95 times and somewhere between your flight #96 and #100 you might hit the jackpot.
-If you see that the row you chose during booking looks full right before online check-in opens, make a switch to one that looks like it may be empty.
-Pick aisle and window seats when traveling with someone leaving the middle one vacant and hope that no one will choose it.
-On a freshly introduced route or a new airline having a lighter passenger load is highly likely since it usually takes some time for customers to grab those seats. -Packed planes are a typical thing for mega-hubs while smaller airports don't get sold-outs.
-In 2016, passengers on a Mexican flight noticed a green snake hanging from the overhead compartment.
-The flight from New York to Sydney takes 19 hours and 16 minutes.
-In 2018, a plane was taking off from Yakutsk in Russia when cargo made up of gold bars, gems, and precious metals started falling out right on the runway.
-In the Orkney Islands in Scotland, there are two airports, Westray and Papa Westray connected by a 2-minute flight. -It takes only 8 minutes to get from St. Gallen-Altenrhein in Switzerland to Friedrichshafen in Germany. Why Car Tires Are Black And Some Little-Known Car Facts

Over 17 million cars are sold every year, in every color imaginable … so, why are the tires always black? Is it to match the road? For that matter, why make the roads black? Why not pink or green? Today’s roads are usually made with a combination of asphalt, bitumen, and other petroleum products —a durable mixture that melts easily and spreads smoothly across a road’s surface. And …it’s naturally very dark. But what about tires? In the 1950’s Goodyear developed tires in many shades to match your car. Let’s find out! Other videos you might like:

-Today’s roads are usually made with a combination of asphalt, bitumen, and other petroleum products —a durable mixture that melts easily and spreads smoothly across a road’s surface and is naturally very dark. -Wheels weren’t always black. Chariot wheels could be shiny bronze. And donkey carts and covered wagons had wooden wheels—sometimes painted!
-Axles need to be strong and you don’t make anyone nervous by implying that your axle is anything other than steel.
-Some tires have white walls—where the natural rubber color is left alone, or even brightened up, with zinc oxide.
-Older cars were often two toned. Colorful cars bloomed all through the 1920’s but light and bright colors made the paint even more expensive. When the stock market crashed, people went back to durable colors. -Tires do have a lot of safety features: no-slip tread prevents skidding, snow-tires prevent sledding, and run-flat tires let you drive to repair shop after you drive over a spike. -In the 1950’s Goodyear developed tires in many shades to match your car. But they got dirty really quickly and cost a lot. -The world’s biggest tire started life as Ferris Wheel at the New York World’s Fair in 1964. Today, it sits on the side of Highway I-94.
-Lego makes tires with diameters just over a ½ inch and they produce about 318 million tires a year! 9 Things You Need to Check Before Selling Your Smartphone

Every year, the next big thing emerges on the smartphone market, and here you are once again deciding the fate of your current phone. If you think it’s time to finally move on, hold your horses. You don’t want to sell your old phone without going through the right steps! Make sure you don’t leave any personal data, such as pictures, music, and so on, on it. Back up your account information and go through all your apps deleting them manually. you can protect your personal information even further by filling your smartphone with dummy data. Copy some larger files to the memory and encrypt it once again. Other videos you might like:

Reset your phone. 4:52
Some Additional Tips & Tricks 5:21 #phonesecrets #sellphone #brightside SUMMARY:
-It’s easy to share data between your phone, tablet, and laptop but it’s just as easy to forget to unpair them. Do that first, and only then take care of your phone.
-Start with your pictures, music, and other files. If you have any network disk app on your Android phone, it probably already uploads all the photos you have. If not, then get yourself covered with any of them in the App Store. It’s pretty much the same on an iPhone.
-If you’re an Apple user, you need to connect your phone to a computer, select the device you want to back up, go to the Summary tab, and then choose the Backups menu. Android users will find the backup menu in the phone’s Settings.
-Resetting the Phone may leave behind some cached information from apps. And this cache could include your personal info or even saved passwords.
-Find the anti-theft stuff in your settings and switch it off. If you have some additional anti-theft apps, get rid of them too.
-Encrypting lets you mix data around so it becomes unintelligible without proper access to it.
-A Google account protects your Android from the factory reset by default, so you need to remove that account from your device before you do this step. For iPhones, go to the Settings app menu, chose the Messages line, and turn off iMessage. Go back to the Settings app and turn off Face Time too.
-Android users will find the right option in the Backup & reset menu of their Settings. For iOS, it’s in the General tab under Settings.
-Check the battery’s health and overall condition before selling your phone. It should at least shift the price one way or another. You can protect your personal information even further by filling your smartphone with dummy data. If, for some reason, you weren’t able to follow these steps before selling your smartphone, then try to recall if anti-theft apps were still on it when you did that. -Only about 35% of adults have natural 20/20 vision and it’s relatively rare for a person's vision to be better than that.
-Remember that sit-ups only count if your chest goes all the way from the floor to your knees. -The average 20 to 29-year-old man can usually manage 17 to 29 pushups in one sitting.
-Chin-ups or pull-ups are much harder than pushups because you need to lift your whole body weight with just your arms.
-On average, it takes 9 ½ minutes for a man between the ages of 20 and 24 to run 1 mile. That works out to be around 14 minutes and 15 seconds for every mile and a half. -The average swimmer can reach speeds of about 2 mph. That's a little over 9 minutes.
-You can’t take the test if you’re over the age of 28 and will be automatically turned away if you have poor eyesight or are colorblind. -If you answered mostly A, then congratulations, you're one world-class athlete.
-If you answered mostly B, you still might be special forces material. Training is extremely difficult, and only candidates at the peak of physical fitness will be considered.
-Don’t feel bad if you answered mostly C or D. If you manage to complete the training, you'll have gained some pretty impressive skills.
-The ability to operate on sea, land, and air is so vital that it’s actually what SEAL stands for. Why Subway Never Has Public Bathrooms

Now, you know that feeling when you’re so excited that your bladder suddenly goes too full? If you’re here in the subway, it might prove tricky, because there are generally no bathrooms around. Why are there mostly no guardrails on subway platforms? 6:55
How are subway trains coordinated to avoid accidents? 7:17
How do train operators stop at the exact spot they ought to? 8:01 #subwayfacts #nobathroom #brightside SUMMARY:
-Subway tunnels use supports that don’t allow the soil above them crumble.
-When it’s summer, all the heat inside a station goes up, while down below it’s much more pleasant. In winter, the heat from all the electrical appliances makes the stations warm.
-You feel a gust of wind when opening the door of a subway station because of a difference in pressure: within the station it’s higher than in the street to better get rid of fumes.
-The third rail is there to provide electric power to the train. The main rails aren’t electrified, so nothing will happen to you if you touch them.
-Overhead power lines use a very high voltage, which isn’t safe for underground trains — the power lines would just be too close.
-Maps are drawn this way because underground it doesn’t really matter where exactly you are.
-When a train arrives to the station, it pushes the air in front of it, creating strong gusts of wind. And since trains come and go pretty often, the air doesn’t really stop moving at all.
-Air shafts are constructed outside the main station building to provide fresh air down below.
-Cellular reception in the subway is possible thanks to the small antennas installed within the tunnels.
-First, bathrooms are ridiculously expensive to maintain. Second, it’s a security concern, since there can be no cameras installed in the bathroom, and any kind of suspicious activity would go unnoticed.
-Handrails and stairs are supposed to move at the same speed, but handrails wear down faster than the stairs, so they are set to a more energetic pace from the start.
-The problem is that a human operator can’t control the train so precisely as to fit the doors to the gaps in guardrails.
-If there’s another train closing in from another direction, the safety equipment will warn the operator, and the second train will stop to let the first one pass.
-There’s always a big and obvious marker on the wall of the tunnel that tells the operator to start braking, and if they do it correctly, they slow down and crawl to the right spot. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

-There are public bathhouses called sentos in nearly every town. -The private Japanese bathroom is an oasis! The tub is deeper than what we see in the West.
-If you’ve been invited to a traditional dinner in Japan, always wait to be told where to sit.
-Chopsticks come with their own set of rules, but remember never to cross them or use them to point.
-In Japan, slurping your soup or noodles is like saying, “This is delicious!”
-One Japanese expression says that their gardens are so small that they’ll fit “on a cat’s forehead.”
-In Japan, you can get your license for a motor scooter or similar small road vehicle starting at age 16, and at 18 for a car. -Japan drinks about 85% of the coffee that Jamaica exports.
-Baseball tops the list of the most popular sports.
-Japan’s largest airline, All Nippon Airways, has painted Pikachu and other Pokémon on the sides of their airplanes.
-Karaoke translates as “empty orchestra” so you better fine-tune your singing skills.

-William Potts, a Detroit police officer, suggested the first modern-type, 3-color traffic lights. He got this idea from railroad signal lights: red, white, and green. White was later replaced by a more visible yellow. -With the number of counterfeiters growing in the middle of the 18th century, dollar bills needed some protection. That's when a special green ink was developed.
-Yellow and light-green don't prevent you from seeing the text after black-and-white photocopying.
-The modern game of pool is the descendant of trucco or lawn billiards. And since grass is green, they later started to cover pool tables with green felt to preserve this tradition. -In its early days, denim was colored with a natural indigo dye.
