The Fastest Thing Ever And 9 Other Rare Objects

You most likely know the fastest animal in the world is a cheetah. But what about man-made objects? A supersonic jet? A space rocket? That’s a good guess. The champion in the super speed competition is Parker Solar Probe. It studies the Sun and flies at an incredible speed of 213,200 mph. But that is not the greatest speed in the Universe. There is a piece of plasma that flew out of a black hole out there that moves in a spiral and forms a cone at a speed of nearly 6,000,000 mph! Fortunately, this incredible force flies far from us, in another galaxy 50 million light-years away. Other videos you might like:

-Air Force Hypersonic Rocket Sled is a special mechanism on rails with a rocket engine created to test rockets and other space objects moving at a speed of 6,600 mph.
-NASA X-43A (or Hyper-X) unmanned supersonic flying vehicle flies at a speed of 6,800 mph.
-Space shuttles "Columbia" and “Discovery” had to reach a speed of 17,500 mph to stay in the orbit.
-Apollo 10 mission report states its maximum speed at entry was 24,816 mph.
-Stardust space probe developed its maximum speed of 28,860 mph.
-NASA's "New Horizons" automatic interplanetary station during its mission has developed a maximum speed of 36,400 mph. NASA sent "New Horizons" to study Pluto.
-At a speed of 38,000 mph, "Voyager-1" covers a distance of about 335 million miles each year. -Galileo's 14-year mission ended in 2003 when the spacecraft was deliberately sent into Jupiter's atmosphere. Before crashing, it managed to develop a speed of 108,000 mph.
-Space probes "Helios-1" and "Helios-2" developed a speed of 147,900 mph and 153,500 mph.
-Parker Solar Probe studies the Sun flying at an incredible speed of 213,200 mph!
-In 2014, astronomers from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics recorded the highest speed in the universe. It was a piece of plasma that flew out of a black hole moving at a speed of nearly 6,000,000 mph!
-To be able to overcome the speed of light, you’d need to equip the ship with a force field. We’d reach the light limit and overcome it by just four thousandths of a mile per second. Imagine that having overcome the speed of light, we’d be catching up with photons from yesterday, then a week ago, then a month, then a year. In fact, we’d be flying through the passage of time, into the past. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

What If You Woke up with a Dog’s Sense of Smell

One day, I woke up smelling like a dog. I don’t mean all rank and stinky – that would be my big brother Jake! I mean, I woke up and I could smell everything. The way a dog can. I knew the smell of foods before, of course, but it was a total surprise to me things like pencils also have a distinct smell. A human has 6 million smell receptors, and a dog – 50 times as much. So let's find out what it means and what new opportunities it opens up. Other videos you might like:

Finding Billy 7:49 #dognose #supersense #brightside SUMMARY:
-It was a hot summer night, and I had a dream I was swimming in the ocean of smells. -A dog knows a scent long before it sees the source. Their whole world is different smells, ones that humans can’t even pick up.
-A normal boy has 6 million smell receptors, a dog is a super-sniffer with over 300 million of them.
-A dog’s nose is all slimy because it helps their sense of smell. and helps with taste too. That nose slime absorbs chemicals in scents, and a dog can feel them on the roof of its mouth. -I was able to feel the scents of things like sneakers and hair ribbons long before I could see them and knew whom they belonged to. -I got a sensory overload from all the smells on the way: people roasting turkey, cutting grass – I knew it all. And I could even smell feelings and emotional states. -Mom’s GPS wasn’t listing the desired destination but I was able to lead us using my super sense of smell. -Finally, we arrived at the picnic. The whole family was there. We ate, the grown-ups talked, and the kids threw frisbees together.
-Then, little cousin Billy suddenly disappeared. I breathed out, got the tiny scent markers moving around my nose, and I sniffed in and followed smell after smell to find him eventually. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Don’t Use a Hotel Hair Dryer and 19 Other Secrets

If you often travel for pleasure or business, you spend a good deal of time at hotels. Hotel rooms are supposed to be the epitome of cleanliness! At least you hope so. But in fact, the objects you’d never think could be dirty are the biggest sources of germs. Hotel staff are required to disinfect the obvious stuff in the bathroom like the toilet and sink, but more obscure items get cleaned less often. The hairdryer, the carpet, lamp switches and TV remotes are only some of the objects on the list. Let’s see what else you should try to avoid touching in a hotel room. Other videos you might like:

19. The Mattress 8:13
20. The Air Itself 8:42 #nevertouchthis #hotelsecrets #brightside SUMMARY:
-The moist environment that’s created after you take a shower plus the heat from the hairdryer equals a nasty breeding ground for all those bacteria to multiply.
-Shampooing services are expensive, so hotels save money by deep-cleaning the carpets less often.
-Staff may wipe the surface of the bedside table, but this is yet one more thing that’ll easily get overlooked.
-Even in four-star hotels the bathroom counters contain the most CFU, or colony-forming units, of bacteria.
-Hotel staff are trying to clean rooms quickly to get them ready for the next guest, so the TV remotes are maybe given a quick wipe-down.
-The cleaners don’t have dish soap on their carts, so the glasses usually just get a quick rinse with hot water.
-The bedspread is among the top 11 dirtiest things in your room.
-Since people throw them off the bed before going to sleep, decorative pillows are home to numerous bacteria. -The sofa collects germs from people’s suitcases, shoes, and anything else guests might toss on it.
-Researchers found that in some 3-star hotels, the drapes only got a mere dusting just once a month.
-The steamy environment makes the bathroom ideal real estate for bacteria and mildew.
-Hotel staff aren’t making the phone in your room their first cleaning priority as people mostly use cell phones these days. -If they aren’t cleaned regularly with vinegar as they should be, coffee makers can become disgusting very quickly.
-Swabs done off desks show a plethora of contagious respiratory viruses on that handy writing surface.
-Some hotels have been known to wipe down the bathroom counter and faucets with the same cloth they use to clean the toilets. -The tap is connected to a municipal water source, especially if you’re in a big city. This kind of water can carry lead, E. coli, and chlorine.
-Before you drop a few ice cubes into your drink, remember the ice bucket hasn’t only been used to hold ice and is hardly ever cleaned. -Researchers say that your room key is just as dirty and germy as money.
-Bed bugs carry over 40 disease-causing bacteria. They’re also tough to get rid of once you bring them back home from your hotel room.
-Even if you don’t have allergies, stale air is unhealthy because it piggy-backs irritants and bacteria into the body. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Volcanoes Found on All the Planets and Moons

It’s no big secret that volcanoes can build new lands. Let’s take the Hawaiian Islands for example. They were a result of underwater volcanic eruptions that pumped out molten rock. It reached the surface of the sea and formed landmasses. But, did you know that the Earth isn’t the only body in our solar system with volcanoes? With technological advancements, we were able to explore (from afar) parts of the universe and discover volcanic activity on both planets and moons. Granted, some of them have been inactive for millions of years. But others are spewing all sorts of things into their atmospheres. Other videos you might like:

What If There Were No Whales on Earth

Whales are the biggest creatures in the history of our planet. Their influence on not only nature but also humanity and our culture is equally as huge. You wouldn’t think their existence would affect our life, but let’s see what the world would look like if there were no whales! In ancient times, they gave us the concept that three huge whales carry our planet on their backs. Centuries later, they inspired one of the greatest books of the 19th century: Moby-Dick. Fashion could’ve taken a completely different path. But mostly, it’d have to be the effect on the food chain and the rich sea life. Other videos you might like:

-The blue whale is the largest and heaviest creature that’s ever lived on Earth and one of the most harmless creatures in the ocean.
-There are all kinds of whale species, and they’re all divided into two groups: baleen and toothed.
-In ancient times, people believed that three huge whales carry our planet on their backs. Whales inspired Herman Melville to write one of the greatest books of the 19th century: Moby-Dick. -People had been hunting whales for thousands of years for their fat, which was used for fuel in oil lamps. That oil was also used to make soaps and cosmetics.
-Baleen was a must-have back in the whaling days. It was pretty much as popular as plastic is today. Without whalebone, we wouldn’t have come up with corsets. -Without whales, seafood would be a luxury, as the number of all crustaceans and mollusks would noticeably decrease. Even ordinary fish would feel the consequences.
-If whales disappear, the ocean will also lose … singing. Male whales sing songs to attract females, and females sing lullabies to reassure their offspring.
-By the way, if there weren’t any whales, there couldn’t be dolphins either. As well as porpoises, they are a type of whale!
-There is a theory: millions of years ago, the animals that whales would later come from actually walked on land! They looked like huge pigs or hippos. It took millions and millions of years of evolutionary process for them to move into water. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Why There’s No Hair on Our Bodies Any Longer

Australopithecines are believed to be our direct ancestors. They are primates, like us, but this far in the past they look nothing like humans: they’re short, with more prominent foreheads, flat faces, and … completely covered with hair. Humanlike apes were still hairy, though, but in about half a million years, the upright-walking primates have finally lost some of their hair. Not all of it, but that’s a start! Why’s that? Let's figure out! Other videos you might like:

And what about our heads? 8:01
‘Hello’ from the distant past 8:25 #hair #humanbody #brightside SUMMARY:
– Australopithecines lived in the trees, like many modern primates do, but what distinguished them from everyone else was that they learned to stand and walk upright.
– Forests have given way to expanding savannahs, and living off the trees has become harder. To find leaves and fruit, they had to cover bigger and bigger flatland areas, so in the end they decided it just wasn’t worth it and found new food sources on the groundю
– Another leap of half a million years and finally, the upright-walking primates have lost some of their hair.
– That’s why, according to the most popular theory, the hominins started getting rid of their body hair: they needed open skin to sweat.
– Let’s jump ahead a bit more — say, a million years further. And here we have hominins that have already lost their hair so much that they resemble modern humans a lot.
– Other mammals, including primates, did not lose their hair and fur, so hominids must’ve had some pretty good reasons.
– Sweating helps them keep their stride for a long time. And they’re the only bipedal hunters who can follow their prey for hours on end, until it falls from exhaustion, leaving itself to the mercy of its stalker.
– And one more thing that this general hair loss doesn’t seem to explain is why humans still have so much hair on their heads but not, say, on their palms or soles of their feet.
– Hairs would slip and you’d simply drop the bar, however hard you may try.
– One of the theories says that we’ve retained thick hair on our heads because of our upright position: when we stand, the most exposed to the sun is exactly the head, and the layer of hair helps protect the skin and brain from its heat.
– Some humans have kept more genetic material from their ancestors than others. According to one version, we’re now moving to a time when men and women will be mostly similar in size and looks.
– And there’s even a genetic anomaly that’s called hypertrichosis, which is believed to be a ‘hello’ to us from the distant past, when humans were still hairy all over. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Scientists May Have Turned Back the Arrow of Time

Through the years, people have collected a whole dictionary of phrases about wasting time and how it can never be turned back. It would be a shame to lose them all if some scientist were to prove that time is reversible. Actually, it seems like that already happened! Well kinda… Time travel might just be real. A team of Russian scientists stated that they were able to reverse the state of quantum in time for a minuscule fraction of time. For this purpose, they used an IBM quantum computer and innumerable attempts, 85% of which were successful in a simple system, and only 45% in a system that’s a bit more complicated. Quantum teleportation is real! 4:03
How a quantum computer works 4:24
So what can be teleported? 8:29 #timetravel #future #brightside SUMMARY:
– The concept of the arrow of time is an integral part of nature’s laws, like the laws of thermodynamics for example.
– Basically, it means that time always goes in only one way: from past to future as everything is constantly, irreversibly changing its state and condition.
– Quantum can be in two states simultaneously. Quantum teleportation was proved to be real, and now it seems like even time itself isn’t truly safe.
– A quantum computer is a real miracle of science, with vast processing power that comes with one main difference from the classic computers: classic silicon-based computers use bits to store information.
– Quantum computers use quantum bits or qubits instead of bits. These are also the most basic units of information for a quantum computer.
– When bits can only be in one of the two possible states, qubits use quantum particles, which can be not only in one of two states, but also in both at the same time.
– For a time-reversal experiment, only two qubits were used, and even if it wasn’t true time-reversal, it’s a giant breakthrough for quantum computing itself.
– The result of these experiments shows that by applying a special equation to qubit particles, they can effectively step back in their state like after a good sip from the Fountain of Youth.
– A group of computer scientists was able to basically transport a particle through space in an instant. One moment it was there, and then it blinked in another place!
– As we already know, scanning a particle applies stress on it, and therefore disrupts its state almost completely.
– Information about the properties of this particle was then sent to the second particle and it inherited them all, effectively becoming the first particle.
– None of the particles were really transported anywhere, but the information about them was teleported.
– In basic terms, teleportation means scanning and disrupting something in one place and reassembling it in another with the use of information from the scan. Therefore, what scientists saw there was still teleportation. – Quantum teleportation, just like quantum time-reversal, can’t be used on anything except particles, like electrons and photons.
– But who knows what could be possible if all this new knowledge could be used to build the first practical quantum computers. With their processing powers, we’ll be able to take chances even on teleportation and time machines. Don’t keep a generator at home 6:57 #poweroutage #storm #brightside SUMMARY:
– Look for any damage on the panel, but be careful and don't touch it, just in case. If the problem isn't the breaker, check the service wires leading to the house.
– Unplugging electronic appliances, such as microwave, computer, washing machine, and so on, will save them from any possible damage from an electrical surge when the power comes back.
– When it's closed, the cold air will stay inside, preventing your food from spoiling. So open it only when it's necessary.
– Don't use candles. Lighting them isn't the best option since they don't give off much light. But the main problem is that candles can cause a fire.
– If your whole neighborhood doesn't have electricity, then gas stations probably won't be an option since they need the power to pump gas from their tanks to yours. That's why it's important to keep the tank full before a storm hits.
– Many people have no idea how to open the security gates manually. Contact the security office to find out. This way you can plan to leave your neighborhood easily if need be.
– It’s better to close all your apps and dim the backlight to save the battery. When there’s no way to charge the phone, you definitely don’t want to be left without the option to make a call in some emergency.
– Though you’ll have hot water in reserve, its temperature will keep dropping. So if you want to take a shower do it as soon as possible.
– Some think that broken traffic lights serve as a four-way stop. But actually, they work the same way as a four-way yield.
– During a neighborhood-wide blackout, your credit cards will be pretty useless. That’s why it’s important to have some cash at home.
– If your house is rather old, look for uninsulated pipes in your basement, garage, or outside the building. If you find them, wrap them up in old blankets or towels.
– If you have a gasoline powered generator, then your chances of feeling pretty comfortable during a blackout rise. But it emits toxic carbon monoxide, so it should stay away from the house.
– If the power outage caught you off guard, use your car to charge your phone or any other mobile devices.
– Have a dozen or so of those small solar powered garden and sidewalk lights planted around the outside of your house. – Keep a battery-powered radio at home. Cell phones might not last long enough during a long-term blackout.
– If your main issue is to stay warm, then choose one room in the house where you’re gonna use alternative heating and close off all the others. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz
