The Richest Woman In America Lived On $5 a Week And Only Had One Dress

Imagine this: one morning you wake up a multi-millionaire. What would you do? Buy a yacht or a garage full of sports cars; maybe a diamond tiara and a cruise around the world? All this would sound tempting to just about anyone, but not Hetty Green, who was the richest woman in America and wore one black dress for years. Why did she become so thrifty? And why did people call her "The Witch of Wall Street"? Here's her story full of eccentricities. Other videos you might like:

-Instead of playing with dolls, Hetty learned all about the stock market and business from the age of six. Hetty invested $1000 out of the $1,200 spending allowance she was given at 16 to mingle in New York society. She helped him manage the family business, and was becoming more and more of a financial guru. -In 1865, Mr. Robinson passed away, leaving his daughter a million dollars and a trust fund of four million dollars. 5 years after her aunt had passed away, Hetty received around half a million dollars that she happily invested in “greenbacks” – bonds issued by the government. -America’s wealthiest woman would bargain with shop owners over every price. She reused envelopes. When it got cold, she wouldn’t buy winter clothes, but wore layers of newspapers under her coat to keep herself warm. She refused to pay the bills from lawyers and doctors. -Hetty was positive financial and family affairs were two completely different things and refused to do so. Her husband went bankrupt after she had refused to help him, and the couple split up. -Hetty and her daughter moved from apartment to apartment since Hetty still feared someone was after her, trying to poison her. While the millionaire herself would normally have oatmeal or eggs, she’d always feed her dog good steak. -After Edward passed away in 1902, she swore she would only wear black for the rest of her life. Some people believe the reason she did it was practical – black needs less cleaning than other colors. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

What Will Happen If We Throw All Our Trash Into Volcanos

Humans produce millions of tons of trash each day, and getting rid of it has become a serious issue. Volcanoes are known for their destructive super powers, and they seem to be able to burn just about anything. What if it was possible to use volcanoes as the solution to our trash problem? Could they really be natural disposal stations? A truck, loaded with wastes, dumped into a lava dome would result in a massive explosion with a lava discharge, followed by an outbreak of toxic gas spreading in the air. Lots of huge electric discharges would go through the ash clouds and lightning would strike everywhere around the volcano. So it looks like volcanoes aren't the best place to dump your trash, after all. #volcanoes #whatif #brightside TIMESTAMPS:
There are different types of volcanoes 0:37
Planetary trash overload 1:51
Why is it so hard to get rid of it? 2:42
Finding the right volcano type 3:40
What will happen if you actually dump trash in it? 5:42 A view of Mauna Loa taken from a Pu'u near The Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information Station at the 9300 ft. level of Mauna Kea: By Madereugeneandrew – Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=40170089 Animation is created by Bright Side. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY:
-The first type of volcanoes are called Cinder Cones – they’re reactive, constantly spewing hot gases and lava up in the air. The calm volcanoes are not active enough and it’s too hard to reach their lava for it to be useful. The more stable type that would allow people to get close enough to dump trash is called a Shield Volcano.
-The process of waste disposal needs to be stable, as humanity produces millions of tons of garbage each day. In a year, these numbers reach a stunning 2.12 billion tons worldwide. -The stink is only the beginning of the problem when it comes to burning plastic or rubber. Gas emissions are toxic and damaging to the environment, plus microscopic particles of plastic get mixed with drops of water in the atmosphere and then go back to earth.
-The only type of volcano that might suit this purpose is called a Shield Volcano. The most well-known examples of them are Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Lava pools formed by Shield Volcanoes may look soft, but they suppress a huge threat underneath, that’s better left untouched. And where lava is, there’s also highly pressurized acidic steams that are immensely toxic for anyone around. -A truck, loaded with wastes, dumped into a lava dome would result in a massive explosion with a lava discharge, followed by an outbreak of toxic gas spreading in the air. Lots of huge electric discharges would go through the ash clouds and lightning would strike everywhere around the volcano. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

New Forests Under the Arctic Ice Keep Growing Bigger

The Arctic is all about ice and cold. If you get a chance to visit it, you won’t see much other than ice, snow and bare rocks for miles and miles. In summer, there's a midnight sun that brings constant light, but not warmth: the temperature doesn’t rise above 40 degrees. The only plants are mosses and lichen, and the only locals are polar bears, reindeer and some species of birds. Maybe the jungle is hidden beneath the ice then? Indeed, divers have found sponges of different shapes and colors here – sometimes as high as 6.5 ft. Other videos you might like:

How long do they live? 5:49
Why are kelps important? 6:57
Other changes taking place in the Arctic 9:09 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY:
-The Arctic is one of the least welcoming places for life on the whole planet. And there are very few species who’ve managed to adapt to such harsh living conditions. -While Arctic land is too harsh, the coastal waters thrive with life. There are dense forests of kelp, some of which reach a length of 49 ft. -Most creatures living on the sea bottom are ectothermic, which means their temperature totally depends on the temperature of their environment. Some fish and animals produce their own “antifreeze”.
-The Arctic species mostly feed on plants and dead animal leftovers that fall from above in the summer. When the sea freezes again, they turn on the energy-saving mode. -Arctic species live up to 70 years, and the species from warmer seas – only 5-10 years.
-The growth of kelps will create new shelters and habitats for fish and other sea creatures. Kelps are also important for the economy. They’re rich in ferrum, calcium and iodine, which makes them popular as a source of food. Kelps can be used for other purposes too – say, as fertilizer.
-The territory of ever-frozen land in Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Norway and Siberia is getting smaller by 1.5 ft a year. The melting of permafrost and the destruction of the Arctic coast block the light, which, in its turn, causes a reverse process that can stop the kelps from growing. -In southern India, you'll find a lizard that both looks like a tiny dragon and can fly. -There were once lots of pygmy hogs in India, Bhutan, and Nepal, but nowadays only about 150 of them remain in the wild. The pygmy hog is usually only about 2 feet long and weighs around 20 pounds.
-The Indian Spotted Chevrotain is a little under 2 feet in length and weighs just 7 pounds, making it somewhere between a Chihuahua and a Jack Russel Terrier in size. -The rusty-spotted cat lives only in the grasslands of India and the mountain forests of Sri Lanka, and it’s one of the smallest members of the cat family. -Back in the 1700s, people mistakenly classified this species as sloths due to their long claws and the fact that they live in trees. These animals have thick shaggy coats that vary in color from black to rich auburn, with a distinctive white V on their chests.
-Indian flying fox is India's largest bat, as well as one of the biggest bat species in the world. The Indian flying fox only weighs about 3½ pounds, but its wingspan can get up to 5 feet across.
-Shekru, which is another name of the Malabar Giant Squirrel, will stand out in any crowd thanks to its luxurious multi-colored coat. When the animal stretches out, it reaches a whopping 3 feet long. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

-Be sure to dry all the damp areas to prevent fungus growth from ruining the inside of your car. Do the same before winter hits so that ice doesn’t form in wet spots.
-To keep it from frying your fingers, turn the wheel 180 degrees before you leave the car. -Put an insulated drink sleeve over your gear lever, and you’re good. If you don’t have one of those, you can just spray it with some water to cool it down.
-To solve this stinky air problem, tape a dryer sheet onto the air conditioning vents. -Let the engine warm up for about 30 seconds before you take off even in the summer to give oil enough time to warm up.
-If you're driving slowly, it's better to open the windows instead of turning on the AC. It burns a lot of gas at low speeds because it runs at full capacity while the engine is going at low revs. -If you hear air hiss through the gas cap when you open it – don't panic. It happens for two reasons. First, as you're driving, fuel gets pumped out of the tank, but no air enters the vacant space. The second reason is the opposite – when your car has been sitting for a while, gas vapors accumulate inside the tank.
-Just put a block of ice on the floorboards under the vent if your AC isn't blowing out cold enough air for your liking.
-Instead of packing a cooler with you, simply use your glove box! There’s a little lid inside and when you turn it around, it opens a cool air outlet.
-Don’t forget your mirrors are made of glass and can easily break if you get in an accident. Play it safe and just close them before you take off. -The intense heat from the sun can melt just about anything, the battery can catch on fire, and the entire car can go up in flames, so don't leave anything on the dashboard.
-Never park your vehicle under trees in bloom. And that’s because in the summer, many of them produce juice, resin, and sticky fruit and berry grains that can land directly on your car. -Cover the vehicle with a few coats of polish at the beginning of summer to protect it from insects, those tree juice stains, and asphalt stains. -Check the overflow reservoir between flushes to make sure there’s enough liquid in the coolant. And never take off the radiator cap while the engine is still hot! -Keep an emergency kit inside your vehicle. It should have water, some non-perishable foods, a first aid kit, basic tools, road flares, jumper cables, and a flashlight. -If you're stuck in a traffic jam and it's getting too hot inside your car, use a mini battery-powered fan. Look What He Did to Win $1 Million Best Teacher Prize

Do you remember your favorite teacher in school? You most likely loved him or her so much because they not only gave you the basics of Math, Physics, or, say, Literature, but seemed to really care about your personal growth and future success? Yeah, the best teachers usually have that in common, especially the world’s official best teacher of 2019! Peter Tabichi teaches math and science at a school in rural Kenya. The Keriko Secondary School where Tabichi works is situated in one of those places where education is more of a rare luxury than anything. There is only one computer for the whole school and poor Internet. Despite that, the boys and girls from this remote African village have taken part in international science competitions and won an award from the Royal Society of Chemistry! And this is all thanks to Tabichi’s energy and faith in his students. Peter Tabichi is going to spend the money he won on computer resources, a scientific library, and new projects for the students and village. Other videos you might like:

To make matters worse, it’s understaffed and overcrowded, meaning there’s only 1 teacher for every 58 students. 95% of the students come from extremely poor families or none at all.
-Boys and girls from this remote African village have taken part in international science competitions and won an award from the Royal Society of Chemistry. Tabichi started a talent club that encourages kids to create all kinds of projects. He also teaches his students to look at things from different perspectives. -Apart from the international recognition his students have gotten at global science fairs, the school’s enrollment as well as the number of graduates that go on to college have doubled. Tabichi also started a peace club to unite the 7 different tribes represented at the school.
-He won the prestigious $1-million Global Teacher Prize presented by the Varkey Foundation. This prize is awarded to the best teacher of the year. Peter Tabichi is going to spend the money on computer resources, a scientific library, and new projects for the students and village. Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz
