Why Some People Chase Storms And Why It’s Popular

The thrill of a hunt, a challenge from nature itself, the opportunity to prove yourself, and a lot of adrenaline – storm chasing has it all, and so much more. I’m driving as fast as the wind; the city limit sign fading far behind me. Lightning is blinding me every couple of seconds and the windshield of my car is flooding from rain. This isn’t my first rodeo, mind you, but I’ve gotten used to the fact that getting nervous is just a part of my job. Debris, tree branches, and dirt covering the road are all signs of impending danger; and signs that my hunt will go well. Other videos you might like:

– When people ask me why I do this, the answer is simple – it’s in the beauty of the storm. But it’s also become my job as a nature photographer.
– Most of the time, the storm is thousands of miles away, and you need to plan every detail of an upcoming trip ahead of time. – I wasn’t a cool kid or a daredevil when I was young; I was a nerd; and probably the most out-of-this-world kind of nerd. – Storms were just a dream for me; I knew I had to study first. But getting into the storm chasing club was inevitable at some point.
– The first step I took was becoming a storm spotter. These are volunteers, from all walks of life, hired and educated to help local weather stations to identify storms. – Checking weather reports every hour, searching for places where cold air might meet warm air – looking for the kinds of situations from which storms and tornados are naturally born. – Never go on a storm chasing trip alone – that’s the rule. One of you will search for the best place to intercept a tornado, and the other one should focus solely on driving.
– If you want to play tag with a tornado, you need a monster rig. This vehicle should be your moving castle, and be ready to take a good beating too.
– Unfortunately, storm chasing isn’t limited to professionals, and that’s a troubling thing. That means there’s a lot of untrained storm chasers that will not only put themselves at risk, but others as well.
– Some individuals will do anything to get to the storm first. This is one reason why you never go storm chasing if you aren’t qualified for it.
– I remember the time I caught one of the best storms I’ve ever seen. The 1000-mile drive was worth it. – I had to make a split-second decision about when to turn towards the storm. Turn too early and I’d get in the way of the tornado, which could lead to the worst turn of events. – My decision was decent, but soon to be proved half baked, since I got into an unforeseen traffic jam.
– I thought all was lost when suddenly I noticed something extraordinary just 50 yards to my side. The wind started to spin near the ground. – My first reaction was pure excitement, but it abruptly turned into panic when I figured out where all the other chasers were hiding. – They were right in the path of the tornado, and completely oblivious.
– All we could do was block the ways to the overpass with the two cars and tell the other chasers to get down on the ground.
– I wasn’t able to catch a single photo, but I helped other people survive that day. Some of them quit storm chasing altogether. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Why Cruise Ships Are So Slow

Ships come in all shapes and sizes. From motorized dinghies to yachts; from glorious looking white cruise ships to bulky container ships and tankers. But they all share one quality: their engines seem excessively powerful, yet they still can’t seem to output the speed you would’ve expected from this kind of power. The reality is the exact opposite of the expectations: a big liner can cross the Atlantic Ocean in a week, but a cargo ship would have to spend more than two weeks to do the same thing. For a plane to go from an airport in Western Europe to New York, for example, it would take only 8 hours. So why do we even use ships if planes are so much faster? Other videos you might like:

The natural speed limit of the sea itself 8:21 #ships #boats #brightside SUMMARY:
– You won’t be able to carry thousands of tons of weight by plane. The same goes for the number of passengers – some ships can carry more than 5,000 passengers in one go! – So in general, ships are going slow just because they don’t need to go faster; their aim is set somewhere else completely. They sacrifice speed for better carrying capacity.
– The engines of big ships are huge powerhouses taking up entire rooms and swallowing tons of fuel each day like it’s a snack. – When a plane flies, it needs to maintain enough speed to stay up in the air, and it needs to avoid clouds when possible.
– Unfortunately, ships have no choice but to deal with the dense environment that often almost fully covers the ship’s hull.
– Even something as fast as a bullet would slow down and finally stop after just 100ft through the water. This is why every ship needs more power to move at all. – A large ship is naturally submerged in the water with a part of its hull up to the waterline. If the ship is loaded with cargo, it’ll be submerged deeper than that.
– All modern-day ships have a so-called bulbous bow – the thing that’s submerged in the water right under the nose of the ship. – This is why modern ships don’t produce waves around them anymore, and their speed is no longer so heavily affected by them. – WP-18 Special Forces Interceptor is a boat you’d expect to see in a sci-fi movie. But it’s real, and it’s literally cutting edge design is specially developed to cut through waves at the extremely high speed of 65 knots, or 74 mph.
– A rush for top speeds was, and always will be, in people’s minds no matter what. This gave birth to another incredible vessel – The Mystic Powerboats C5000. – The max speed achieved in this boat is mind-blowing 250 mph. – If you want to go even faster, I have bad news for you: the sea won’t let you, because it won’t be calm enough.
– So it seems like about 300 mph is the natural speed limit of the sea itself. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Why Steve Jobs Didn’t Use Social Media

Half the world spends two to six hours a day on social media, and those numbers keep going up. A lot of the credit goes to Steve Jobs, the inventor of the iPhone (and co-founder of Apple Computers.) But when you picture Steve, make sure it’s with his head up, addressing a crowd, looking into someone’s eyes, or exploring the world, not bent over the little screen so many of us hold in our hands. Steve Jobs was the least likely in any crowd to be gazing at social media! He didn’t use Facebook, and he didn’t use Twitter. Other videos you might like:

– Like most inventors, Steve was always looking for the next idea, and he believed there was no substitute for a good old face to face exchange.
– And while Steve Jobs did invent the iPhone, he didn’t do it alone! He shared that credit with more than ten other inventors! – Another reason Steve didn’t spend time on social media was that so many of his good ideas come from the random inspiration he encountered in the “real” world. – When discussing creativity, Steve talked a lot about “connecting the dots,” but it might be more accurate to say that Steve believed that first you had to “collect” the dots. – You’ve probably heard that Steve Jobs dropped out of college, and that’s true, but it’s also a little misleading. Not only did Steve stick around campus, he kept taking classes! – You see, once Steve no longer had to worry about fulfilling “requirements” for a major, he was free to observe any class that interested him.
– Steve “collected the dot” and “dropped in” to a calligraphy class! Years later, when he was designing the first apple computers, Steve used the things he learned in Calligraphy class to design the first suite of computer fonts. – So if you, unlike Steve Jobs, are constantly attached to your screen, always do your research. That’s what third party trackers are doing…their research on you! – A good tip for browsing the web is the classic “If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.” – Never give out personal information like your social security number or mother’s maiden name. – Never post anything on line that you don’t want to have “Track” you forever. Be especially careful with the jokes.
– In April of 2017, officials at Harvard discovered a Facebook group where accepted students made some jokes in bad taste. Even though the students insisted that it was all in fun, and many of the jokes were about themselves, Harvard revoked the admission from ten students.
– This doesn’t mean you have to give up social media. It’s fun, informative, and lots of jobs and schoolwork require it. Just practice safe behavior. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Why Planes Don’t Fly in Extreme Heat

Flight cancellation might come as a shocker when you’re sitting in the departure lounge looking at the gorgeous bright sunny weather outside. If there’s not a raincloud or snowstorm in sight, then what gives? Oh yeah, planes can’t fly in extreme heat! In the summer of 2017, 50 flights were canceled at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The reason: temperatures were a brain-melting 120°F! In the age of super-advanced technology, it seems weird that air travel can be interrupted by an unusually hot day. The reason is actually in the nature of flight itself! Other videos you might like:

What about the cold? 6:00
Can it be too windy to fly? 6:53
The riskiest situation that can happen in wet weather 8:05 #planes #aviation #brightside SUMMARY:
– Before every departure, pilots get detailed information on the air temperature, humidity, elevation, runway length, and other important things.
– If there’s no lift, a plane won’t be able to take off and stay up in the air. It all has to do with wings and how they’re designed to redirect the movement of air. – Since the air particles are resisting that change, the pressure on the underside of the wing is higher. Over the top of the wing, the pressure remains low.
– The atmosphere gets thinner the higher up you go. Here “thinner” simply means that the air molecules are further apart from each other.
– Hot weather has the same effect on air as higher altitudes do. That is, the higher the temperature, the less dense the air is. – For some planes, mostly smaller ones, it gets to the point where it not only has to be reduced, but the flight must be rescheduled because it’d be too dangerous for it to even try to take off.
– Aircraft components like onboard electronics overheat, seals can get too soft or melt, brake temperatures increase during landings, there can be cabin cooling issues – a lot of things can break down in crazy hot temperatures. – Leaving a few passengers on the ground is one of the possible solutions when the plane just has to take off no matter how hot it is outside. – Is there such a thing as too cold to fly? Well, if anything, aircraft prefer when it’s chilly. After all, they’re designed to cruise at 35,000 feet, and such altitudes are known for their teeth-chattering temperatures of around -60°F. – A plane is unlikely to start wigging out just because it’s going through some turbulence. Aviation engineers and manufacturers test their aircraft and specify limits for the ground-, air-, and cross speeds. – Heavy rain is mostly a problem when it comes to landing. Runways are designed in such a way so that water doesn’t remain standing on them. – However, if that happens, pilots have to adjust landing speed and distance depending on how much water is on the ground. Hydroplaning is the riskiest situation that can happen in wet weather. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Why Asians Always Wear Masks

If you’ve ever been to any East Asian countries or seen them in pictures or TV shows, you probably noticed hundreds of people wearing surgical masks. They wear them in public transport, cafes, in the street, and in the office. In Japan, Korea, China, and Vietnam, medical face masks have long ago become part of everyday life. Even babies wear them all the time. It looks like the most obvious reason would be to not catch a cold. Well, technically, it all started with that. Wearing a mask gives minimal protection from germs, though it’s the opinion of some that viruses have no difficulty getting through them. But there are other reasons. Other videos you might like:

– When you’re sick, you’re constantly leaving a trail of germs that stay behind wherever you go: on seats in public transport, doors, and hand-rails. That’s why wearing a mask is a social courtesy.
– Another reason is air pollution. If you ride a scooter, and there are millions of them in Vietnam and China, you’ll want a mask. – Masks are also effective against allergies. The end of February is the beginning of allergy season for people in Japan.
– In those Asian countries where winters can be cold and frosty, masks can also help to protect the face. – Asians wear masks so often that they’ve long ago become part of their wardrobe. Young people try to pick out a mask color and shape to match their outfit. – The Asian masks market is thriving, they spend $230,000,000 on masks yearly in Japan alone. – Asia is the biggest continent in square miles and population. It’s bigger than the entire surface of the moon by 2.9 million square miles.
– Though China is in 5 time zones, there’s officially only one that they use. – The Vietnamese New year, Tet, is a birthday for everyone. It starts on the first day of the Moon calendar, which is at the end of winter, and is celebrated for several days.
– The Thai New Year is celebrated from April 13 till April 15, and is the oldest festival that marks the change of seasons. – The Japanese are the thinnest nation among the largest economies. And this is regulated by law! Japanese laws demand that men’s waist shouldn’t be wider than 33.5 inches. Women’s waists shouldn’t be wider than 35 inches.
– In Vietnam, men grow long fingernails. It’s considered a high-class mark, since only people who don’t do any hard work can manage this. – “Inemuri” is the Japanese practice of taking a nap during the workday. If you go to sleep in the office, nobody will judge or fire you.

The Great Pyramid of Giza Mystery Finally Solved

The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the world’s famous seven wonders. It’s a real miracle that more than 4,000 years after it saw the light of day, it still stands in the sands of Egypt. But did you know that it looked completely different in those days? The Great Pyramid was conceived as a tomb for Khufu whom you may probably know as Cheops. It remained the tallest structure created by human hand in the whole world for more than 3,800 years! Btw, it’s hard to believe, but in ancient times the crypt was mesmerizingly white… 💥 And guys, you probably know that Ancient Egyptians held cats in the highest esteem. – It was only in the 27th century BCE when the concept of a pyramid with smooth and evenly tilted sides that we all know today was introduced.
– Originally it rose about 480 feet above the ground, while the sides of its base were over 750 feet long. – It was comprised of about 2.3 million blocks of stone, and each of them had an average heft of over 2 tons. – The main stuff used during the construction was different types of limestone.
