The Funnel Method 0:50
The Bowl Trap 3:01
Freezer Swap 4:08
Prevention 4:51 #fruitflies #bugs #brightside SYMMARY:
– The funnel trick is a magic trap for fruit flies, and it’s kind of a fun DIY project. – Start by grabbing a tall vase or jar to use as your base container. – Next, you’ll need to choose your fruit fly bait. Fruit flies go after anything sugary.
– Now, roll a piece of paper to create a funnel shape, and tape it so that it keeps its form. – Stick the narrow end through the top of your base container so that the funnel is resting in the opening. – Finally, set your fruit fly trap near the infested area – perhaps near your fruit bowl, garbage, or sink. – There's a similar method but with a little less crafting. All you need do is put ripe or rotten fruit in the bottom of a medium or large bowl. – Throw in a sweet liquid as well, maybe soda or syrup.
– Cover the bowl as tightly as possible with plastic or Saran wrap. Grab a fork and poke holes around the top of the wrap.
– This is the same idea as the funnel method – we’re luring the fruit flies to a bait that they can get to while making it harder for them to escape.
– Take 2 medium-sized jars and fill them with fruit rinds and peels. Cover the mouths of your jars with clear stretchy plastic wrap. – Poke a small hole, perhaps with a toothpick, in the middle of the dents; this is where the fruit flies will enter the trap.
– When you notice fruit flies in one jar, put it in the freezer. This will freeze the flies and their eggs! – The one sure-fire way to prevent fruit flies in the first place is to store your fruit properly. – Once the fruit is ripe, it’ll last much longer when refrigerated. – Even if your bananas are black on the outside, still try refrigerating them – this may save the tasty inside.
– Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit stop ripening after they’re picked, so these can stay in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

17 Familiar Foods You Can’t Buy in Different Countries
Every country has its customs and … a list of banned food ingredients. Yep. Things you can always find on the shelf of your local grocery store might be off limits somewhere else in the world. That’s not just a cultural phenomenon, but a matter of health and safety. For example, in Europe and Great Britain, selling chicken treated with chlorine has been banned since 1997. Since 2010, chlorinated chicken has also been banned in Russia. Farmed salmon is banned from a list of countries, including Australia and New Zealand. Raw, or unpasteurized milk, is so common in Europe, especially in Austria and Switzerland, you can buy it from a vending machine there. However, it’s been banned in about half of the United States for the past thirty years. So you guys might want to reconsider your list the next time you go shopping. Other videos you might like:

The First Human Who Learned to Hibernate
Do you ever want to curl up under a warm blanket and sleep through the freezing winter just like bears? Actually, many animals do that, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work with us humans. Or… does it? Well, we know one man who survived the cold for over 3 weeks just like that. Imagine you’re going on a picnic with your colleagues. To make the get-together even more exciting, you choose to meet in the mountains. What could be better than a delicious meal in the open air with an incredible view? That’s exactly what Mitsutaka Uchikoshi thought on October 7, 2006… Other videos you might like:

Happy accident 3:54
24 days without food and water 4:20
So how did he survive? 5:15
How we could harness the power of hibernation 6:05 #truestory #survivalstory #brightside SUMMARY:
– That day, he went up Mount Rokko to join his buddies from work.
– So after Mitsutaka and his friends had a really good time and were done with the grilling, they decided to come down and go home. – Everyone felt that way, well, except Mitsutaka. He came up with an even better idea. What if he stayed and found his way down all by himself?
– At first, everything was just fine. He was walking through the beautiful hills, thinking about the nice day.
– At some point that day, he simply got lost. – But when he tried to cross a river, he slipped and fell. And the worst part was that he broke his pelvis, which made it almost impossible to walk normally. – He recalled later that “the sun was out, he was in a field, and he felt very comfortable”. That was the last thing he remembered.
– It was only by sheer luck that on October 31, a hiker was tramping through the area. When he stumbled upon a man, it was, of course, none other than Mitsutaka.
– He spent 24 days wounded, without food, water, or any protection from the rain and cold. – To protect itself, his body entered a state similar to… hibernation.
– Since Mitsutaka clearly had nothing to nibble on for over 20 days, his metabolism decreased to a minimum.
– After 2 months in the hospital in Kobe, he was as good as new. Dr. Shinichi Sato, who treated him, claimed that his brain had also recovered 100% as if nothing had really happened!
– But most scientists were excited because it was the first known example of a human going through hibernation.
– Hibernation could be the key to exploring the universe in reality. – As far as more down-to-earth issues are concerned, it could also be applied in medicine.
– In fact, a procedure that somewhat resembles hibernation has been used by surgeons for decades. – Maybe researchers will take this technique further to simulate hibernation. Or who knows, maybe they’ll come up with something new. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

12 Mistakes 98% of People Make Before Flight
For quite a few people, flying can be a stressful experience. Even folks who’ve been doing it for years will tell you that. Not only do you need to be a savvy passenger that organizes everything in advance, but you also need to be prepared for the unexpected. Some people even follow a strict schedule in order to be one step ahead. However, this method isn’t always enough. There are certain things we tend to forget. For example, are you aware of the things you should never do before flying? For those of you who have no clue what this is about, here are some of the mistakes that you might not even know you’re making at the airport. Other videos you might like:

Putting your documents in a small bag 0:42
Not checking-in online 1:24
Paying for over-weight luggage 2:18

Wrapping your suitcase 3:43
Going to the first security check-points 4:23
Keeping liquids in their carry-on Relaxing after going through security 6:06
Trying unusual dishes 6:38
Forgetting about turbulence 7:34
Ditching the anti-bacterial wipes 8:34
Not thinking about jet lag 8:56 #airtravel #traveltips #brightside SUMMARY:
– If you lose your backpack at the airport, you have a good chance of finding it because it’s large. A smaller bag will be more difficult to spot, and if an opportunistic thief spots it, it’ll be easy for them to hide. – With the online check-in options, you somehow guarantee your arrival at the airport for your flight. So, the sooner you do it, the better. – You can always weigh your luggage at home, or you can restrict yourself from packing some necessities that are already available at the airport. – Right before your long-awaited journey, make sure you check some websites that show you the secret. For example, which seats have more leg room.
– It’s better to invest in a good quality lock for security, or try a reusable cover that can keep your luggage nice and clean. – Many people automatically go to the first check-points that tend to be overcrowded. The main reason is that the last checkpoints don’t have a queue, and passengers assume that they’re closed.
– Next time you travel, make sure you double check the amount of liquids you’re taking, and place them in a transparent pack to speed-up the process. – When trying a new cuisine or new food, you don’t know how your stomach will react to it, and doing that right before a flight is a huge no-no. – The best time for turbulence sensitive passengers to fly is during the winter, in the morning or late at night. And if you’re wondering why turbulence has the luxury to pick it’s time to shine, let’s get into some sciency stuff. – The airport is one of the most infectious places you can be in. So, having some anti-bacterial wipes and sanitizer to protect yourself is literally life-saving. – 93% of flyers experience jet lag. So, the best way to avoid this is by adjusting your watch, and maybe the time on your phone, to the time of your destination. – Avoid the crowds and wasted time by checking the flight status online early and often.
– Knowing ahead of time where to park and how far the open spots are from the terminal can save you a lot of anxiety on your drive in. – Most airlines now have online, mobile, or booth check-ins.
– A handy trick is to pack what you think you need and then cut that all-in half. Cut it in half again if you can!
– It’s always better to have a couple extra hours of hanging around in the airport than being in such a hurry that you barely make your flight!
– If you really must take a checked bag and a carry on, then get the kind that rolls on 4 wheels.
– Knowing ahead of time where each part of the airport is located – be it terminals, trains, security, or even just the bathroom in case of an emergency – is an underappreciated travel tip. – If you’re flying in the cooler months, a jacket with big pockets is key. After passing through security, you can quickly throw your phone, wallet, and passport in a pocket before grabbing the rest of your belongings. – Don’t get up to the check-in desk, security officer, or boarding gate agent and THEN start digging for your papers.
