They Found a Ship That Disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle 90 Years Ago

Bermuda Triangle earned its terrifying reputation by swallowing countless ships and airplanes, leaving no trace behind. But recently, the Bermuda Triangle has added another mystery to its record: Cuban coast guards came across a ship that had gone missing more than 90 years ago! #bermudatriangle #missingship #brightside SUMMARY
– It was November 29, 1925, when the S.S. Cotopaxi left Charleston, South Carolina, and headed for Havana, Cuba, carrying a big load of coal and 32 crew members. – On May 18, the Cuban coast guards announced that they’d come across a ship that wasn’t answering their calls. To tell you the truth, even at first sight, the ship looked bizarre. Rusty and run-down, it seemed to drift mindlessly, without any destination in mind. – The mysterious finding brought more questions than answers. If S.S. Cotopaxi sank almost 9 decades ago, how did it reappear on the surface? What happened to the crew, and how did they disappeared without a trace?
– Over centuries, there have been so many mysterious disappearances in that area that the chances are high that you'll find one or two ships that fell victim to the infamous Triangle. Maybe it’ll be the Patriot, a passenger schooner that left Charleston, South Carolina, on December 30, 1812, and headed for New York City. – The Bermuda Triangle had already gained popularity in the 15th century when Christopher Columbus documented weird compass readings and bizarre lights in the area. Its nickname, "Hurricane Alley," speaks for itself. – As for airplanes, probably the most inexplicable disappearance happened on December 5, 1945, and got the name "The Lost Patrol." Flight-19 was the code name for 5 bomber planes that flew from the naval base in Florida on a training flight. – Well, no doubt, it all looks very suspicious, and the notoriety of the Bermuda Triangle might be well-earned, but think of this. The area of the Bermuda Triangle varies from 500,000 to 1,510,000 square miles, depending on the person describing the anomalous zone. How Touchscreen Works In Simple Words

How do touchscreens work anyway? Johnson was the first to create touchscreen technology, these displays hadn't gained popularity till the 1970s, when the resistive touchscreen was accidentally invented. Further developing on that new technology, scientists at the University of Toronto invented the first multi-touch display in the 1980s. As for the very first touchscreen cell phones, they came out a little later in the 90s. #touchscreen #brightside #smartphone SUMMARY
– The scientists needed to use some equipment that was so overworked that it was only available at night. You can imagine how much that inconvenience was slowing down their progress! It was then when Dr. Hurst and his colleagues thought of using some electrically conductive paper in their research. By developing this idea, they eventually created the first computer touchscreen ever!
– What’s the magic behind the touchscreens we know and love today? If you thought that just one technology stands behind this "swipable" phenomenon of our time, think again! In fact, there are more than half a dozen approaches to make touchscreens work.
– The technology is simple: you press on the screen hard enough, and it bends and resists your touch (hence the name). But what happens next? The thing is that a resistive screen consists of two layers that can conduct electricity. – Capacitive touch screens are made from either indium tin oxide or copper. Both these materials keep electrical charges in super-tiny wires, with each of them way thinner than a human hair. – Ever wondered why your cell phone won't respond when you're wearing gloves? The problem is that clothes don't conduct electricity (unless you have special gloves fitted with conductive threads of course!).
– Most people don't realize just how widely used touchscreens are! In fact, nowadays it's hard to find a field that doesn’t make use of them. Airplanes, stores, banks, schools and universities, hospitals, you name it! Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

25-year-old Dorothy Arnold was the heiress of perfume importer Francis Arnold. Dorothy got a great education and graduated from the prestigious Bryn Mawr College for women, where she majored in literature. Life was going great for the young woman. That is, until the day she mysteriously disappeared on December 12, 1910… TIMESTAMPS

Dorothy leaves the family’s home 1:33
Dorothy goes to Brentano’s bookstore 2:33
Dorothy waves a farewell to Gladys and heads home 2:58
Her father was afraid of damaging his business reputation 3:50
They interviewed Dorothy’s friends, acquaintances, and shop assistants 4:48
Detectives checked passenger lists of all the ships 5:20
Francis Arnold finally gave in 7:50 SUMMARY
– Dorothy leaves her room and goes downstairs. She meets her mom in the main hall and tells her she’s going shopping to buy a new dress for her 19-year-old sister Marjorie’s debutante party.
– Dorothy leaves the family’s home in the posh Upper East Side of Manhattan. She takes $25 with her, or about $700 by today’s rates. – On 27th Street, Dorothy goes to Brentano’s bookstore where she buys a collection of funny stories and essays. Upon leaving the shop, she bumps into her friend Gladys King. – Dorothy waves a farewell to Gladys and heads home. She decides to go through Central Park on her way. At least that’s what she tells her friend.
– In the evening of December 12, Dorothy still hadn’t arrived home. But there wasn’t any immediate cause for alarm. – They suspected that someone could’ve abducted his daughter to demand a ransom from the well-off family. He didn’t want to make things more complicated by giving publicity to this story. – He also searched the girl’s room and found only one strange thing. There were burnt sheets of paper in the fireplace. He couldn’t make out the text, but there were some flyers of ships carrying passengers from the US to Europe.
– Six weeks after his daughter’s disappearance, Francis Arnold finally gave in. He invited journalists for a press conference and assumed that she’d been attacked while on her way home through Central Park.
– There’s also the theory that she simply ran away. It was known that she’d been feeling particularly down about the magazine refusals. In fact, it’s believed that the burnt papers in the fireplace that had been found in the early days of the investigation were letters of refusal. #dorothyarnold #mystery #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

Why Millions of New Cars Are Left Abandoned

Places full of unwanted things and even whole cities void of people are actually real, and there are some surprising reasons for their existence. There are many places in the world where perfectly new, unsold cars pile up like garbage in areas even larger than airports. Why? The answer is: the overproduction crisis. TIMESTAMPS
New cars 0:21
Taxis 1:57
Bicycles 2:37
Buses 3:38
Trains 4:22
Red phone booths 4:54
Cities 5:32 #abandonedcars #abandonedcity #brightside SUMMARY
– There are more cars produced than buyers who will purchase them, and since factories can’t give them out for free they toss them aside to make room for new production. Ironically, they can’t just stop producing new cars, because that would mean firing a lot of workers and running out of business.
– Some taxi graveyards have hundreds of cars, like the one in Chongqing, China that looks like a yellow sea from above. Others have dozens of cars parked in all the wrong places and causing discomfort to city dwellers like the illegal taxi graveyard in Queens.
– You can see impressive-looking bicycle graveyards all across China. It’s not that the Chinese hate using bikes and decided to dispose of them in such a merciless way. In 2017, the bike-sharing business took off in China. – Some of the old buses become a shelter for the homeless, others are turned into art objects adorned with graffiti. Someone in Ontario who had quite a few of them at their disposal lined them up and made a fence out of them. – Some train cars get rusty or are somehow defective and simply await repairs. Others are left to rot because they used to run on railroads that no longer exist. This is the case with the West Branch Railroad in Maine, for example. – It’s not only vehicles get abandoned and pile up. Just as British as tea and double-deckers, the iconic red phone booths also end up in the middle of nowhere these days. – Can you imagine whole cities getting abandoned? And I’m not talking about little villages somewhere in the mountains. The capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, for instance, is built of marble and looks majestic but is basically a ghost town. TODAY VS. RECENT PAST

Time really flies these days. Back in the Middle Ages, it’d take a century for the world to change ever so slightly. But now, every new decade seems like a new era. Come on, admit it — as recently as 2009, we used to live in a totally different reality without Instagram or Game of Thrones. But today, it feels like these things have been around forever!
Bright Side decided to take a closer look at the subject of time and wants to visually demonstrate how much the current day differs from ages past! SUMMARY
Our idea of family has changed
We’re paying more attention to safety
Our anticipation for the start of new seasons remains the same!
Rare dog breeds and other exotic pets have become common
We’ve become addicted to gadgets
So much so that sometimes, we fail to notice each other
Then again, some things haven’t changed at all Our day is still only 24 hours long
Just like before, we’re easily tied to one spot
And we’re no closer to understanding our cats! #funnycomics #thennow #brightside Have you noticed other ways in which today differs from what went on before? The shoulder stand 9:23 SUMMARY: – #1. Start by standing straight with your feet placed hip-width apart and loop a resistance band around your calves. Keeping your right leg straight, lift it sideways. Then bring it back to the starting position. Do the same with your left leg. Moving the right leg once, and then moving the left leg once counts as one rep. Perform 20 reps. – #2. Get on all fours with your palms resting right under your shoulders and your knees under your hips. Extend your left leg behind you and above your head level and then extend your left arm up towards the ceiling. So, now you’re balancing your body on your right hand and right leg. – #3. Start on all fours and stretch your legs back to get into the plank position. Lift your right leg off the ground as if you were kicking. The sole of your kicking foot should face the ceiling. Now, lower your leg and repeat using your left leg. Repeat this exercise 30 to 40 times while switching between legs. – #4. Stand upright with your feet together facing the box. Put your left foot on top of the box and push down to bring your right leg up. Don’t just raise your right leg to the level of the box; keep taking it up and bring your right knee as high as you can by bending the leg. Bring your leg down by reversing the motion and then repeat the sequence with the opposite leg. – #5. Start by standing straight. Step forward with your left leg, lowering your hips until both knees are bent at about a 90-degree angle. Make sure your right knee is directly above your ankle and the left knee is not touching the floor. – #6. Imagine yourself standing on a surfboard. You’ll have your feet spread wider than hip-width apart, and arms stretched on the sides at shoulder height. Squat down, keeping your knees behind your toes. That’s how you stand while surfing, right? Now jump and turn, landing on the opposite side. Keep doing it for a minute or so. – #7. Stand straight with your feet close together. Now bend your upper body at a 90º angle, keeping your arms stretched out in the front. Now slowly, without losing balance, lift your right leg up to hip level. Your leg should be parallel to the ground. Next, lower the leg down and keep doing it ten times. – #8. To start, all you have to do is stand straight with your feet about shoulder-width apart and hold the weight with your hands. This is the starting position. Now, step back with your right leg, lunging behind your torso and stepping toward the side of your left leg. Hold on to the position for a second and return to the starting position. – #9. Lie flat on the ground, keeping your legs extended and arms by your side. Keeping your feet flat on the ground, bend your knees. Now, curl your torso and try to bring your knees toward your chest, lift your hips up, so that your torso is perpendicular to the floor. Bend your elbows and place your palms on your lower back like you’re supporting it. Lift your thighs up until they’re perpendicular to the floor. #legexercises #workout #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

A Simple Explanation How Bluetooth Works

My wireless speakers, earphones, hands-free calling – what’s the magic behind Bluetooth tech? How does it all work? The idea of what we call “Bluetooth” today was first introduced back in 1989. Dr. Nils Rydbeck, who was the chief technology officer at Ericsson Mobile, and inventor Dr. Johan Ullman had this revolutionary idea to develop a pair of wireless headsets. They brought Dr. Jaap Haartsen on to the project. A mere 5 years later, he’d be the engineer who made the breakthrough and came out with the first protocol. It took a few more years to perfect the technology. But finally, in 1999, they presented their first hands-free headset to the world at the Comdex computer exposition and trade show in Las Vegas. SUMMARY
– Three companies were working separately to create short-range radio technologies that would connect computers and different devices using short-wave frequencies. But since the invention was in its early stages, Intel, Ericsson, and Nokia decided that the best way to proceed was to create a single wireless standard.
– Bluetooth works a lot like Wi-Fi. It uses radio waves to send data between devices at short distances. Now, whereas Wi-Fi uses radio waves to transmit data between your router (where your Wi-Fi comes from) and your device, Bluetooth does it between devices.
– Bluetooth can connect to 8 devices at the same time without any interference from other wireless items like garage doors or baby monitors.
– The Bluetooth transmitters in both your computer and your devices use 79 different frequencies in that range.
– If you’re wondering what devices use Bluetooth nowadays, the answer is almost all of them. Phones, headphones, earbuds, speakers, stereos, TVs, cameras, cars, tablets, game consoles, you name it! – When Bluetooth first came out, it was really easy for someone to access your data without your permission. But over time this technology has become more secure. – There’s this trend called bluejacking where a person or company can send you their electronic business card or an ad as a text message using Bluetooth. Of course, when you see that, you either ignore it or panic! But this is something that mostly happens in public places where everyone is using their phones. – The amount of non-ionizing radiation present in Bluetooth headphones is a lot less than what’s in a typical cellphone. #wireless #bluetooth #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz
