Another Bermuda Triangle Has Formed Near Japan

Japanese oceanographic research vessel Kaiyō Maru No. 5 was sent to investigate the mysterious disappearances of nine other Japanese ships in the same notorious location – The Dragon’s Triangle. This mission proved to be unsuccessful, as Kaiyo Maru also vanished with no trace. Is this story just a myth, or is something really strange happening in the Bermuda Triangle of the Pacific Ocean? SUMMARY
– There are about 12 small sea regions with a similarly bad reputation. They’re called Vile Vortices. – It’s situated on the opposite side of the globe from the Bermuda Triangle, really close to Tokyo, Japan. Throughout history, it’s earned itself several menacing names like the Pacific Bermuda Triangle, and the Dragon’s Triangle. – Due to the lack of research, it’s hard to outline precisely where the Dragon’s triangle actually begins and ends, but it supposedly lies in an area of Izu Islands south of Tokyo. – This story is the beginning of the alleged supernatural events linked to the Dragon’s Triangle. In the 13th century, Mongolian Khan Kublai, the grandson of Genghis Khan, planned an invasion of the Japanese islands. – Most of its bad reputation was earned in 1974 when a writer and investigator of the supernatural, Charles Berlitz, released his book “The Bermuda Triangle”. – The most paranormal thing about this story is how many people believed in it. The only person with enough skepticism to conduct his own investigation of events was a modest librarian, Larry Kushe. – Japan is based upon volcanoes; all the islands here are the product of their underground activity. Countless little volcanic pores are scattered along the bottom of the ocean around Japan. Their eruptions would look like flashes of light coming from the water. The water around would grumble and appear unstable, as if something is moving and roaring in the depths. #dragontriangle #bermudatriangle #brightside Japanese training tall ship Kaiwo Maru II off the Port of Yokohama: By baku13 – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=7248752 Animation is created by Bright Side. The First Woman Ever Who Sailed Around the World

Jeanne Baret: the first woman to travel around the world by ship. An impressive feat, sure, but it’s especially noteworthy when you consider the fact that she did it during a time when women weren’t allowed to sail on epic expeditions! You might wonder how she managed to pull this stunt off. From a peasant girl to a history-making world explorer, the story of Jeanne Baret is a fascinating one and one certainly worth remembering! It just goes to show you that seemingly ordinary people can end up having extraordinary lives. SUMMARY
– Jeanne Baret was born in 1740 to a poor family in Burgundy, France. Her father was illiterate, which was nothing out of the norm for a peasant at that time. – Philibert employed Jeanne has his housekeeper and personal nurse. Of course, we can’t know exactly when the two fell in love, but by 1764, it was pretty much a fact. The two moved to Paris, where Baret continued to take care of Commerson and the household duties. – Not wanting to leave Commerson under the care of someone other than herself, she came up with the idea to disguise herself as a male assistant. Her plan worked, and her disguise must’ve been pretty good because she boarded the ship as a man named Jean Baret. – In April 1768, when the expedition reached Tahiti, Baret’s true identity was finally revealed. One story goes that it was the native Tahitians who immediately figured out that she was a woman. – Commerson and Baret were left there as Bougainville had respect for the two and didn’t want to go back to France with a woman on board his ship. – The happy newlyweds then moved back to France, which finally completed Jeanne Baret’s circumnavigation of the globe. She was the first woman in history to complete such an expedition. #femalesailor #brightside #truestory Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

How Electric Cars Really Work | Electric VS Gas Car

Electric cars you plug into the wall like a cellphone! So who came up with the idea, and how does the technology really work? Many countries began producing electric three-wheeled cars until the US made a huge breakthrough. In 1891, they created the first electric vehicle, and get this: it was a 6-passenger wagon that could go up to 14 miles per hour. After that, people were thrilled, and the electric car market thrived. In the late 1890s, electric-powered taxis filled the streets of London. SUMMARY
– Cars They needed too many batteries to run the motor over long distances at such low speeds. It wasn’t until 1859 when French physicist Gaston Plante invented the lead acid battery that changed the electric engine game for good. – By the late 1920s, infrastructure in the US had improved significantly, and vehicles needed to go further more efficiently. So, fossil-fuel cars took the lead because they got the job done. – Electric cars took their final hit in 1910 when Henry Ford began his mass production of gas-powered vehicles, which made them ridiculously cheap whereas electric cars cost a lot more. – The main difference between electric and fossil-fueled cars is that the former can use a variety of renewable sources to generate their electricity. In fact, the science behind the electric car is surprisingly simple.
– What about electric cars specifically? Well, most of them convert the direct current electricity from the batteries into an alternating current. – Now, electric cars don’t have a gearbox or lever, and all of them are automatic. They have a single speed transmission that sends power from the induction motor to the wheels. – An electric car gets “juiced up” by being plugged into an outlet or a charging station, and they use three main levels of charging. The first level is the basic charging you can do at home – it uses an outlet of 120 Volts and adds 2-5 miles of charging per hour. – Electric cars are less expensive to run and maintain if we compare them to fuel-powered vehicles, but there’s no denying that the car itself comes with a much higher price tag. But still, according to a recent study, the average operating cost of an electric car is $485 a year, whereas a fossil-fuel automobile is $1,117.
– One of the most expensive components of the electric car is its battery pack. It’ll cost you an arm and a leg to replace if it breaks down – expect anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 for replacement! #electriccar #futurecar #birhgtside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

13 Etiquette Rules in the US That Surprise Tourists

If you’re heading to the US anytime soon, I’ve got some tips for you on what we Americans consider the rules of etiquette and some stuff that’s totally ok in the US that other countries might consider rude! Let’s start with my favorite: food etiquette!
Are any of these Americanisms different or the same in your country? And to all my fellow Americans, can you add anything to the list? Other videos you might like:

It’s ok to keep it casual! 8:40 SUMMARY
– If you’re eating out and your food is tasting a little bland, it’s completely fine to ask for salt, pepper, or sauces to add a little zing to your meal. – A lot of Americans feel guilty about not leaving any tip. The rule is 15-20% of the bill, so get ready to do some mental math each time you eat out. – If you’ve finished eating and your tray is now full of wrappers, used napkins, and empty boxes, take it to the trashcan and dispose of the garbage yourself. – I was pretty surprised when I found out that opening a gift as soon as you get it is considered bad manners in certain parts of the world. – Americans love small talk, so don’t be surprised if a stranger just starts chatting with you while you’re waiting in line or sharing an elevator.
– Let me bust the myth that Americans constantly walk around smiling ear-to-ear. Nobody does that because that’d be weird.
– The unspoken rule is to stand about an arm’s length away when you’re talking with someone. – There might be some Americans who greet the European way, but overall, we don’t kiss each other as a way to say hi. – The stereotype of the loud American tourist might ring true most of the time since we tend to project our voices, even out in public. – “No” means “no” even if it’s said indirectly and super politely. – You should ride in the backseat because the driver might give you a weird look otherwise. – There are plenty of families here that have a “No Shoes Indoors” policy, although I’d say the majority don’t. – If you’re ever out and about in the US, you’ll see a lot of people running errands in sweatpants, gym shorts, baseball caps, or even their PJs! But it’s not just about clothes either – we often keep it on a first-name basis even with people that are generally referred to more formally in other countries. #usafacts #americanrules #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

A Man Went 300 Miles In Antarctica Without Food

Mawson was left alone, 100 miles away from the main camp, with almost no food to sustain him, and severe frostbite on his feet and skin. Antarctic wasteland. Nothing around for miles but snow, wind, and deadly crevasses in the ice. But then a dot appears on the horizon. It gets closer, and you see it’s a figure of a lone man staggering through the blizzard. He’s clearly reached his limit but is still plodding on, pulling a sled with his scarce supplies. – December 2, 1911. An expedition ship called SY Aurora began its voyage to Antarctica. On board were 31 men led by Douglas Mawson, a 29-year-old explorer, already renowned for his previous expeditions.
– On January 8, 1912, the steam yacht landed at a then unnamed cape in Antarctica. At this point, the expedition began in earnest. The place was dubbed Cape Denison, after a major backer of the expedition.
– November had marked the beginning of the Antarctic summer, and the weather conditions were better than most of the previous year, so Mawson decided to take advantage of that. – They were well-equipped and had plenty of supplies, using sled dogs for a speed boost. And at first they made good progress: the Far Eastern Party, as they were called, crossed two enormous glaciers and traveled over 300 miles in less than a month. – On December 14, they met yet another of those crevasses, and Mertz went first. He checked whether the bridge was sturdy enough and crossed the gap without trouble. – Apart from the loss of a friend and a team member, Mawson and Mertz realized they were in a desperate situation now. It so happened that Ninnis, going in the rear, had been carrying most of their provisions, their tent, and all of the dog food. – Nobody can cross a 300-mile distance in 10 days, so, naturally, their food supplies finally ran dry. That’s when they had to consider the unthinkable: the dogs…
– Mawson was left alone, 100 miles away from the main camp, with almost no food to sustain him, and severe frostbite on his feet and skin. – Mawson had already lost all hope, but then it sparked once more when, on January 29, he stumbled upon a stash of food covered with a black cloth and a note from his crew: they’d been searching for his party, and the ship was still waiting. – Aurora, which had been waiting patiently for the Far Eastern Party to return, departed from the coast of Antarctica just hours before Mawson appeared. He literally saw its sails far off in the sea.
– Douglas Mawson was met as a hero in Australia and received several medals for his outstanding deeds. In 1915, he wrote an autobiographical book, The Home of the Blizzard, where he described his misadventures. #surviveantarctica #truestory #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz

4 Times Huge Airlines Successfully Landed On Water

There’s no such thing as a safe emergency airplane landing, especially if it has to land on water. But some gifted pilots can do wonders with their metal-winged birds, even if those birds are huge airliners with lots of people on board! Here, I’ll tell you about 4 times airplanes landed on the water without any major injuries to the passengers. Landing a plane on water has its own special term now. It’s called ditching, and this task is one of the hardest for pilots. Period. Mainly because it’s almost impossible to train pilots to deal with this situation. Especially if we’re talking about 1956, when there were no training simulations available. TIMESTAMPS
Boeing 377 Stratocruiser 1:17
The Pan Am Flight 6 1:40
The Tupolev Tu-124 4:12
Airbus A320 of US Airways (Miracle of the Hudson) 6:56 SUMMARY
– Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, a huge liner with 4 engines – one of the first airplanes with a pressurized cabin and double-deck feature! With this double-deck, it could take up to 100 passengers on board. But on this day, October 16, 1956, there were only 24 passengers and 7 members of the aircrew on the plane. – The Pan Am Flight 6 was supposed to be an around-the-world flight with several stops along the way. This was its last take-off from Honolulu before arriving at the destination point in San Francisco. Unfortunately, at the half-way point, when the plane was climbing in altitude, one of the Boeing’s engines violated its speed limit and stopped. Slowly but surely, the plane started to get closer to the sea, unable to keep the altitude. It didn’t help that another engine, engine number 4, also started to malfunction. But still, pilots managed to distribute the workload to the three remaining engines and keep an altitude of 5,000 ft. – In the summer of 1963. The Tupolev Tu-124 airplane with 52 people on board was circling around in the skies above Saint Petersburg, Russia, trying to find a way to ditch on the Neva River. Problems with this flight began immediately after the plane took off in Tallinn. The front gear of the plane wasn’t able to retract, but the Tupolev couldn’t turn back to Tallinn – the weather was too foggy for that. As the flight was supposed to end in Moscow, the closest place to land safely along the way was in Saint Petersburg. – And, the record holder for the number of people on board a ditching plane – Airbus A320 of US Airways, Flight 1549. Also known as the “Miracle of the Hudson” Flight. It happened 10 years ago, on January 15. The cause of this would-be catastrophic event was nothing more than a flock of geese which struck the engines. But thanks to the mastery of the Airbus’ pilots, and ingenuity of its construction, the 155 people on board remained uninjured. #landingwater #planecrash #brightside Other videos you might like:

How Far the Universe Really Extends

Our world map was finally complete in the 1820s, with the discovery of Antarctica. But why stop at the end of the earth? Or the moon? What’s the farthest we could go? Despite all our advancements, for a very long time, the farthest man could travel was restricted to distances on the earth. In April of 1961, that all changed when humanity became a spacefaring species. The Russian cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, was the first man in space. He blasted into orbit on a 108-minute flight high above Earth. The Americans followed a few months later. Other videos you might like:

– In 1969, the Apollo 11 mission landed the first two men on the Moon. – Another great feat was achieved the next year in April 1970, when the crew of NASA's Apollo 13 swung wide around the far side of the moon at an altitude of 158 miles, putting them 248,655 miles away from Earth.
– Humans kept exploring in the hope that maybe there’s something beyond the Milky Way as well. At this point, astronomers noticed that some stars were dimmer than others. – Leavitt had studied thousands of Variable stars; stars whose brightness, as seen from the Earth, fluctuates. She found that if certain stars, known as Cepheid variables, pulsate at the same rate, they have the same brightness. – Around this time, work was also going on to install the Hooker telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory, California. This would be the world's largest telescope from 1917 to 1949. – The farthest galaxy observed is named EGS-zs8-1. The light from it took 13.1 billion years to reach us. – No one really knows what lies farthest from us, or how big our universe really is. Some say that the universe is edgeless, while others believe in a multiverse hypothesis. #spacefacts #brightside #galaxy Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz
