With the S&P 500 down almost 5% from its recent high, investors are looking for clarity as to how transmissible and deadly the new COVID-19 variant is, and whether current vaccinations will protect against the disease.
Some on Wall Street have been highlighting worst-case Omicron scenarios, but Kolanovic feels current data shouldn't ring alarm bells just yet.
"South African cases are near the pandemic average, and COVID fatalities are near the bottom, a fairly favorable situation relative to the past two years," he explained.

As many Monday morning quarterbacks like to point out, the losses on shorting a stock that goes up can be greater than the gains on shorting a stock that go down. This means to reap the benefits of shorting stocks, you have to:1) take losses before they kill you, 2) short only small position sizes, and 3) short a basket of a large number of stocks.

Israel barred travel to several nations after reporting one case in a traveler. Two cases were identified in Hong Kong. Belgium also confirmed a case. “When I read that there’s one [case] in Belgium and one in Botswana, we’re going to wake up next week and find one in this country.
