I’ve made several million dollars, but how did I make my first million? Long story short, I got started at the right place and time.* I got into trading in 1998, when the stock market was booming. I made money going long. In 2000, I learned to short sell and profited from the crashing bear market. There's no right answer as to whether going long or short is better. Everyone's different — you have to find what works for you. You have to work HARD. You have to learn to adapt to the market. The best traders I know can go long and short. I prefer going long these days because I think there are a lot of shorts. A lot of newbies are shorting, and the short squeezes are getting crazy. During this time I used two patterns that I repeated. One I recognized was these companies would spike up on day two after their first big green day. I spotted these companies because they were percent gainers. This is the same research process that I use today — 20 years later. That’s why we designed the StocksToTrade software around this key indicator. I was basically buying these boiler room stocks without knowing what they were. I would ride the wave up. Another favorite pattern of mine was when companies added dot-com to their name. They would sometimes spike for three to five days as people started to get excited about this new online world. I would buy dot-com companies that kept spiking, and I’d take my gains along the way.** These are two very simple strategies that I repeated again and again. Very rarely would I lose, and over time my small profits added up to roughly a million dollars in just a few years. I entered the market at the right place and time. It didn’t happen overnight. It happened over time with hard work, dedication, and learning to manage my risk. Remember, investing and trading is always a risky business. I came into the market at the right time, but no matter what or when you trade, you need to learn to manage your risk. What can you learn from my experience? What patterns do you like to trade? Don’t Make These Short Selling Mistakes

Twitter: https://bit.ly/2P46g8n FULL DESCRIPTION Today, I want to explain this super sarcastic tweet. Some people understood it, but a lot of people didn't. It’s directed at a lot of short sellers who entered the market in the last year or two. Too many newbie traders just like to short anything that goes up. They think that all these penny stocks will crash. So, if the stock’s up a decent percent in the day, they think that most likely it'll go down the next day. And a lot of the time, they can be right. But this is where short sellers can get too confident and comfortable. Remember, the market can ALWAYS humble you! I've been a short seller. I've been there. The reason I strayed from shorting is because of the risk, and newbies don't always fully understand it. For those of you who don't know, shorting is when you bet on lower prices — you take a negative position. Essentially, you want the stock to go down. And most penny stocks drop after spiking for a while. Here’s the problem: A lot of newbies don't understand how high a stock can go. And if you’re a short seller who wants the stock price to fall, you lose if it goes higher. And if you’re not careful, you can lose A LOT. Short sellers try to predict the top … they try to bet on lower prices. But often times, they get squeezed. That's what a short squeeze is. So if you're a short seller getting squeezed while trying to exit your position, you have to buy to cover. That means you have to buy the stock. So you don't know if someone’s buying the stock because they think the stock is going up, or if they're just buying to cover to get out of their short. Either way, it creates more buyers, and that crushes the shorts. Always, respect rule number one — cut losses quickly. If you follow this rule, you shouldn’t have big losses. Obviously, you can't be 100% perfect … It's not completely foolproof. But that mentality can help you learn to greatly minimize your risks. What’s your approach to minimizing your risk while short selling? How has the market humbled you? Drop a comment below and let me know! #TimothySykes #Pennystocks #Investing —————————————————————————————————————-

A lot of people wonder how I got into the stock market and how I have such a crazy work ethic. I have to thank my mom for that. Fun fact: I was born on tax day, at 9:26 a.m. — four minutes before the stock market open. Coincidence? It’s almost like I was destined to become a trader. I’ve had an obsessive personality since I came out of the womb. And my mom really helped me embrace my passions. She would always help enhance and inspire my hobbies. Apparently, I was a savant artist when I was a child … then I moved on to tennis. I played in state championships. It was pretty serious. All these experiences helped me develop discipline, and that hard work can ‘pay’ off.** When I found my way to stocks, my obsession was off the charts. More so than with anything I’d done before. People wanted me to go out with them, and all I wanted to do was stay in my room and trade. I had charts on all my bedroom walls — my original database. I had tons of index cards … Yep, I still have them. When I started I didn’t even know about short selling. I didn’t start trading that pattern for about two years. I adapted from one thing to another. I tried new strategies, and I worked my butt off until I found success.** And now, I bring that same obsessive personality to charity with Karmagawa. If you find success in one area, you can take the lessons you learned into your next strategy or your next hobby. No experience will ever be exactly the same, but the same lessons apply. Focus on what works. And when that strategy no longer works, you'll be amazed at how adaptive you become. Because you worked to find success, and it does transfer. All the effort you put into learning the first strategy that works can help you learn to adapt. It's whatever motivates you — to be truly successful in anything you have to be disciplined and work hard. You have to put in hundreds, thousands of hours of time. Not too mention effort, your blood, sweat, and tears. So you need to be passionate about it and love it… Long story short: be obsessed. Get excited about whatever makes you passionate and learn to embrace and learn from your losses. What motivates you? How many hours do you spend studying a week? Drop your thoughts in the comments below… #TimothySykes #Pennystocks #Investing —————————————————————————————————————-

Over the years I’ve become obsessed with charity and “saving the world.” I donate a ridiculously high percentage of my income to charity, because I care about it. I want you to start thinking a little differently about money… Instead of focusing on the amount of money you have, start thinking about what you’re passionate about, or a problem and what can you do to help? How much will it take to help? If you’re passionate about something you want to do whatever you can to help succeed in that project. You invest your time and money into pursuing it. My biggest passion project is saving the coral reefs. I invested a ridiculous amount of money to make the best documentary possible to help bring awareness to this problem. (If you haven’t already seen it, you need to.) Yes, money has bought me my freedom. But your life shouldn’t only be about money. You can have a big financial account, it’s what you do with it that matters. I've gotten obsessed with giving back. I’ve built 53 schools around the world. Now, I’m on a mission to help save the reef. This is what money should be used for: to change lives. So think about your life. What can you do to make your life, or those you care about — whatever you care about, better? #TimothySykes #Pennystocks #Investing —————————————————————————————————————-

Hedge funds and mutual funds: what exactly are they and should you trade them? Mutual funds invest in a big basket of stocks. When you buy a mutual fund you’re investing in 50–100 stocks. But investing in multiple stocks doesn’t necessarily make mutual funds safer — it’s all a marketing facade. Hedge funds are mutual funds on steroids. They can bet on big groups of stocks … But they can also short sell and bet against assets. Theoretically you can do better because you’re long some and short some. Hedge funds come with more risk than mutual funds, but they can also be more flexible. Mutual funds and hedge funds are great if you’re lazy or if you trust other people with your money. They’re not geared toward making money but toward accumulating assets instead. Personally, I don’t want to let someone else manage my money. I don’t trust anyone. I want you to become self-sufficient traders. I’m fully invested in helping you find success. All of my top students study their butts off learning my strategies, rules, and patterns. You don't even have to learn from me, but take tidbits of wisdom from me and other top traders who share it. That’s how you become self-sufficient. Don’t take shortcuts. Hedge funds and mutual funds can say anything, and many of them do. Nearly 70% of mutual fund managers don't even beat the S&P 500 every year. The internet changes everything — there’s so much opportunity. It's not just about how much money you can make, but how much knowledge you can acquire. Once you have the knowledge, you can use that to build your account over time. Laziness will get you nowhere. So, what do I think is the best investment you can make? Drumroll, please … It’s in yourself, your future, and your education. Leave a comment and share your thoughts on hedge funds and mutual funds. What other questions do you want me to answer? #TimothySykes #Pennystocks #Investing —————————————————————————————————————-

Twitter: https://bit.ly/2P46g8n I teach, trade, travel, and do a ton of charity work. It sounds like a lot, but there’s one skill that helps me through it all. You should work on mastering it too. What’s this magical skill? Multitasking. If you’re serious about becoming a trader, whether you have a full-time job or you’re a student, you have to learn to balance and juggle a lot. You want a life too, right? OK, so no matter who you are or where in the world you are, mastering this skill is non-negotiable. I've been working for over 20 years, pretty much every single day. Whether I'm trading, teaching, or growing my charity — it's all work. And I LOVE it. That's a bonus lesson… Focus on what you love. I know that there are so many possibilities, but I encourage you to try a lot of different things. Heck, try it all. Find what YOU love. But you have to realize something: If you want to be successful in anything, especially trading, you have to accept that it requires hard work and patience. Occasionally, I miss trades. It’s OK! But the cool thing about the stock market? Once you educate yourself enough, once you’re really a self-sufficient trader … you’ll realize the market’s always there. There will always be another opportunity. And another after that. And so on… Sometimes it’s easy for me to get caught up in trying to balance everything that I work on. But if I couldn’t multitask, I wouldn’t be able to do any of it at all. Once you master it, you’ll feel how much of a difference it makes. This skill can help you greatly improve your productivity. How do you multitask on a daily basis? How long did it take you to master it? Drop a comment below and let me know! #TimothySykes #Pennystocks #Investing —————————————————————————————————————-

Welcome to Tweets with Tim. We'll review some tweets where I get a lot of questions.
Recently, people got upset when I called a certain stock a blatant pump. But how are its longs? It got CRUSHED! So, why was it considered a pump? Because there were mass emails hyping this stock. It doesn’t matter how good or bad the company or product is. When emails are sent out en masse to advertise that a company has something ‘great,’ it’s essentially just to advertise the stock. Somebody’s paying for those emails to go out. And what happens after a stock is pumped? It gets dumped. Whoever’s paying to promote the stock isn’t investing in the product. They're not investing in the company either. They just care about the stock price going up. Why? Because when the stock goes up they can sell. That's how pumps work. You need to study the past. Learn to respect history. Avoid losing like most traders do because you fail to prepare. Too many traders get suckered into these pumps. They fall for them and then go down with the ship when they drop in a matter of days. And for newbies, it can be very confusing. How did I know that this stock was gonna drop so big? Experience. I've been trading for over 20 years and teaching for over a decade. I've seen thousands of pumps. That’s why I teach everything openly. I want to offer you the help I didn’t have when I got started. Utilize it! How much do you love Tweets with Tim? How has this topic helped you and what other areas would you like me to cover?
